UCSI University’s Faculty of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts (English Language and Communication Department) brings its students the experience of poetry slam this week. The theme of the competition is Freedom. It is open to the public to participate and attend.
The event aims to introduce young people and those interested to skills they can use both to express themselves through poetry and to deepen their understanding and appreciation of poems written by others.
The poets who will be slamming are a mix of students, and new as well as established poets. It will be hosted by performance poet and poetry educator Elaine Foster and Poetry Cafe KL. The esteemed judges include Sheena Baharudin and Nor Huda Mohd Izam.

Earlier this month, a poetry slam workshop was also organised. The UCSI University Poetry Slam Workshop and Competition 2015 is part of the Right to Read Campaign to Encourage Creative Cross-Disciplinary Communication Through the Spoken Word, as organised by the English Language and Communication Department (ELC).
