If you are hoping to qualify for the Biasiswa Anak eKasih PTPTN (BAeK PTPTN), being part of the eKasih database is one of the key requirements. But what if your parents are registered and you are not sure whether your own name appears? Or if your household is even registered under eKasih? Here is what students should check before approaching PTPTN.
1. Why Does eKasih Matter for BAeK PTPTN?
BAeK PTPTN is available to eligible students from B40 households that are listed in the eKasih database. For BAeK specifically, PTPTN states that the student must be listed in eKasih, alongside meeting other requirements such as studying full-time for a Diploma or Bachelor's Degree at an IPTA and having PTPTN financing approved from 1 January 2026 onwards. This means having a parent or household member associated with eKasih does not automatically mean you should assumethat your own details are already recorded.
2. How Do You Check Whether You Are Already Registered?
You can check your eKasih registration status online through the official government eKasih status-checking service. The process is simple:

Open the official eKasih status checker.

Enter your MyKad number.

Select the search option to view your registration status.

The service is free and the result is provided immediately. For students checking BAeK eligibility, it is useful to check using your own MyKad number, because PTPTN requires the student to be listed in eKasih.
3. Does the Student or Head of Household Need to Be Registered?
eKasih is primarily a household-based poverty database, with household information usually organised around the Head of Household, or Ketua Isi Rumah (KIR).However, BAeK PTPTN has an additional practical requirement: the student must appear in the eKasih database. For example, if your father is the Head of Household and your family is registered under eKasih, do not simply assume your BAeK eligibility is confirmed. Check your own MyKad to see whether your details are reflected in the database.
4. What If Your Family is Registered but Your Name is Missing?
If your household is already in eKasih but your own details cannot be found, the next step should be to have the household record checked or updated. The public eKasih guidance does not currently provide a dedicated online process for students to add themselves to an existing household record.Registration and household matters are instead handled through recognised channels such as the relevant ICU JPM State Office, District Office, local community leaders, JPKK or MPP.Students in this situation should contact the relevant office and explain that their household is already registered but that their own details need to be checked.
5. What If Your Household Is Not Registered With eKasih?
If neither you nor your household is registered, you will need to complete the eKasih registration process first.Registration can be initiated through recognised government or community channels, including:

ICU JPM State Offices

District Offices

local community leaders

Village Development and Security Committees (JPKK)

Residents' Representative Councils (MPP)

It is worth noting that while eKasih status can be checked online, the current government guidance does not describe a standard public online self-registration form.
6. What Happens Once Your eKasih Status Is Updated?
If your name was previously missing and later appears in eKasih, you do not automatically receive BAeK.Instead, PTPTN states that students who were previously not in the database should appeal to PTPTN once they have been registered in eKasih.Your BAeK eligibility will still depend on meeting the other conditions, including your course, institution, age and PTPTN financing approval date.
7. When Should You Approach PTPTN?
You should approach PTPTN for BAeK consideration after your eKasih registration has been recorded.PTPTN specifically states that students whose names were previously absent from eKasih should register first and then submit an appeal to PTPTN. Any scholarship offer is still subject to available financial allocation.PTPTN's current BAeK FAQ does not specify a dedicated online BAeK appeal form, so students should check directly with PTPTN for the appropriate appeal channel once their eKasih record has been updated.
Before You Apply for BAeK
Being listed in eKasih is only one part of BAeK eligibility. You must still meet the other requirements, including being aged 25 or below, studying a full-time Diploma or Bachelor's Degree at an IPTA, and having PTPTN financing approved from 1 January 2026 onwards.

BAeK PTPTN: How to Check Your eKasih Status & Register

How to Check Your eKasih Status for BAeK PTPTN Eligibility

1. What Is BAeK PTPTN?
BAeK PTPTN is a government initiative introduced under Budget 2026 to help eligible students from eKasih households continue their studies without taking on the usual PTPTN repayment burden.Students do not apply for BAeK as a separate scholarship from the start. They must first have PTPTN financing approved. PTPTN then checks whether the student meets the BAeK eligibility requirements.
2. Who Qualifies for BAeK PTPTN?
Students must meet the current eligibility requirements:

A Malaysian citizen

Aged 25 or below when applying

Registered in the eKasih database

Studying full-time for a Diploma or Bachelor's Degree at a public higher education institution

Studying a programme registered with PTPTN

Have PTPTN financing approved from 1 January 2026 onwards

Have at least one semester of study remaining

Have an active Simpan SSPN Prime or Simpan SSPN Plus account

Not have a PTPTN account being managed by an Agensi Perunding Hutang (APH)

Being registered under eKasih alone does not automatically guarantee the scholarship. Students must meet the other BAeK requirements as well.
3. Can Existing PTPTN Borrowers Qualify?
Yes. Already having PTPTN financing does not automatically make you ineligible for BAeK.What matters is whether the financing you hold meets the scheme’s requirements. In particular, the relevant PTPTN financing must have been approved from 1 January 2026 onwards.Students whose PTPTN accounts are currently being managed by an APH are not eligible.
4. Does It Matter When You Started University?
Not necessarily.A common misunderstanding is that anyone who started university before 2026 cannot qualify. In fact, the more important date is when your PTPTN financing was approved. This means a student who began studying in 2025 may still qualify if the PTPTN financing was approved from 1 January 2026 onwards and they meet the other conditions. For example:

Started university in September 2025, PTPTN approved in January 2026: You may qualify.

Started university in September 2025, PTPTN approved in October 2025: That financing does not meet the BAeK approval-date requirement.

So, when checking your eligibility, look at your PTPTN approval date rather than your university enrolment date.
5. How Much Can You Receive?
The BAeK scholarship amount follows the PTPTN financing amount approved for your programme.

Programme

Annual Amount

Diploma

RM4,750

Bachelor's Degree (Arts)

RM6,180

Bachelor's Degree (Science)

RM6,650

For example, a four-year science degree could amount to around RM26,600, while a three-year arts degree could total around RM18,540.The scholarship is not normally paid as one lump sum. Payments are made by semester based on confirmation of the student’s study status and academic results.
6. How Do You Apply for BAeK PTPTN?
If your PTPTN financing has already been approved, you do not need to submit a separate BAeK application form.PTPTN will assess your eligibility automatically. If you qualify:

PTPTN sends a BAeK offer through email and myPTPTN.

Print and complete the BAeK scholarship documents.

Sign the Notis Pindaan, which amends your existing PTPTN financing arrangement.

Submit the completed documents physically at a PTPTN branch.

The documents must be submitted within 60 days from the date of the BAeK offer letter.

In simple terms: PTPTN approval → BAeK eligibility check → BAeK offer → sign documents → submit within 60 days.
7. What Happens to Your Existing PTPTN Agreement?
You do not need to cancel your existing PTPTN agreement.Instead, eligible students sign a Notis Pindaan, or amendment notice, together with the BAeK offer. This changes the existing financing arrangement to reflect the scholarship.
8. Do You Need to Repay BAeK PTPTN?
BAeK financing is provided as a scholarship rather than a standard repayable PTPTN loan. This means successful recipients do not repay the BAeK scholarship in the same way as ordinary PTPTN borrowers, subject to the scheme’s terms and conditions.
9. What If You’re Not Registered With eKasih?
If your household is not yet registered under eKasih, you should complete your eKasih registration first.Once your household appears in the eKasih database, you may approach PTPTN to appeal for BAeK consideration. However, approval remains subject to the scheme’s requirements and available allocation.

Athena shared her passion for sustainable energy at the International Sustainable Energy Summit (ISES) 2024.In 2023, Athena wrote an essay that changed everything. It wasn’t just another school assignment or a college prep draft; it was an essay that kickstarted a whirlwind of interviews, nervous anticipation, and finally, a phone call that would rewrite her future. That call welcomed her into one of Malaysia’s most prestigious pre-university scholarships: the Yayasan UEM Global Scholarship (YUEM-GS).“That moment marked the beginning of a journey that would reshape what I thought was possible,” she shared.Where It All Began: Learning About YUEM-GSWhen Athena found out about YUEM-GS from her high school mentor, everything just clicked.“I’ve been very fortunate to have met mentors who showed me that it’s possible to pursue higher education and get a scholarship,” she said. “That’s something I’ve been working toward throughout high school.”“It was my chance to learn beyond borders, to gain global exposure, and to connect with peers from around the world. The opportunity to go abroad, to explore courses I’m passionate about, and to grow alongside peers from different countries—that was too good to pass up.”Athena’s Second Family in KYUEMStepping into Kolej Yayasan UEM (KYUEM) and meeting the other scholars was like entering a different universe for Athena. Surrounded by a tight-knit cohort of brilliant minds, Athena found her scholarmates—“my second family,” she called them.“Beyond the academic rigour, it was the energy of the place that stood out to Athena. Imagine being with future doctors, economists, climate advocates and tech leaders, all under one roof. And the best part? Everyone came from a different part of Malaysia, bringing fresh perspectives to every conversation.“It’s just a very concentrated bubble of really motivated youth,” she explained. “Learning from their lived experiences—seeing different perspectives—helps me grow so much as a person.”The Scholarship That Cares Beyond GradesYUEM-GS isn’t your average scholarship. It doesn’t just cut tuition fees and wish you luck. “It invests in you,” Athena said. From personal development workshops to leadership camps, from check-ins about your wellbeing to full-on support for passion projects, the programme is built on one big belief: that the next generation of leaders deserves more than just financial aid, they deserve a support system.Athena (first from left) at the 18th UN Climate Change Conference of Youth (COY18), held in 2023 in the UAE.“The scholarship officers don’t just ask about grades. They check on our family, our well-being, and what we’re passionate about. It’s like having your own team of cheerleaders,” Athena shared. When Athena began advocating for climate change, Yayasan UEM didn’t just nod in approval. They backed her. Full-on.“They sponsored my trip to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai. It was surreal,” she said. “Getting to discuss climate justice and education with global youth and bringing those insights back to Malaysia was unforgettable.”How Did This All Lead to Harvard University?Through sheer grit and the space to explore. The financial freedom from YUEM-GS allowed Athena to focus on essays, extracurriculars, and opportunities she once thought were far-fetched.“The US application process is no joke. But having a team that encouraged me to push further and supported me throughout made all the difference,” she said. And when that final admission letter arrived? “It wasn’t just a personal win. It was a proud moment for the community that had my back every step of the way.”A Message to Students With Big DreamsAs Athena gears up for her next chapter at Harvard, she is already thinking about how to give back.“A lifelong principle I hold on to is: keep learning, keep improving for your community, and inspire others,” she said. “It fulfils me to know that something I do could encourage someone else to believe in their dreams too.”Athena (3rd from right) during the KYUEM Summit, where she was one of the panellists, discussing youth leadership and nation-building initiatives. To every young Malaysian out there dreaming big but unsure where to start, Athena has some advice: “Be resourceful. Ask for help. And most importantly, enjoy the process.”Athena’s story is more than an inspiring tale of academic success. To become a high-tech and high-income nation, the government is pushing a digital-ready and AI-skilled workforce, which includes raising the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education target ratio to 60 percent. As a regional engineering and construction company, Gamuda has a hand in shaping engineers and high-skilled labour to meet these demands. Since 1996, the Gamuda Scholarship under Yayasan Gamuda has paved the way for exceptional young Malaysians to pursue their studies locally and globally, with access to reputable universities the likes of Imperial College London, University of Cambridge, Peking University, Nanyang Technological University, and University of New South Wales. “For our scholars, graduation is only the beginning of their journey to a flourishing career. Many have chosen to join Gamuda upon completing their studies. Our workforce benefits tremendously from this ready pipeline of true talent and many of our scholars are helming senior management positions within the company today,” said Ts. Today, Ong is attached with a data centre project, focusing on Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Security, and Network systems. Ong at the chiller plant room at the MRT Putrajaya Line’s Sentul Barat Station in 2023. Holistic Development Beyond Financial Aid Beyond financial aid, the scholarship programme builds well-rounded scholars through leadership training, networking and mentoring programmes, and holistic development. We are building the next generation of leaders for Gamuda. Ong reminisced about the time he was entrusted to manage a critical task early in his career. “As a fresh graduate then, I led the relocation of TNB’s 275kV underground cables, which were on the path of the MRT Kajang Line’s Maluri Underground Station development. My mentor and team empowered me to take ownership and drive the project to completion.” For Intan, who is passionate about personal growth and soft skills, she took the initiative to spearhead the Sports Club at the Penang Silicon Island project. “Apart from sports activities, we have community service programmes. During our Beach Clean Up, we collected nearly one tonne of waste!” “The club is where we break down departmental barriers and ensure employee well-being. But Ong and Intan’s stories have been a testament to the transforming power of the Gamuda Scholarship. “Our scholarship programme provides equal education opportunities to B40 and M40 students and those from marginalised communities, positively impacting their lives. To date, 763 students have experienced a life-changing journey through the Gamuda Scholarship, opening the door to a brighter future,” said Lim, who was a beneficiary of the scholarship in 2008. Covering full tuition fees, living expenses, accommodation, book and laptop allowances, the scholarship alleviates students’ financial burdens, leaving them free to focus on what truly matters – their studies and campus life. With a final word of advice, Intan calls students seeking financial aid to try for the Gamuda Scholarship. “The programme is for anyone aiming for growth and keen to tap into opportunities in the construction industry.” Ong concurs, leaving us with this: “Gamuda offers a dynamic environment where driven individuals can thrive and those with the right mindset will undoubtedly pave their way to a rewarding career.” Apply for the Gamuda Scholarship today.
