The study of Law in Malaysia is a ruling system, a set of rules and regulations which applies to all members of a society governed by the judiciary system of that country.
Are you really good at memorising? While all your friends struggled with history and trying to recollect obscure dates, you wished all other subjects were exactly like it. Did you enjoy arguing, not silly shouting contests over something idiotic, but a thought-provoking, articulate debate perhaps? Do you also like those powdered puffy white wigs that judges use? Well then, if you do, studying Law in Malaysia might just be for you.

Apart from merely fulfilling the prerequisites of pursuing a career in law, it is a field of study that truly opens your mind and trains you to think analytically.
With so many degree options out there, here are some top reasons why you should study Law:
A degree in Law will open up many doors of opportunity to work in various industries such as media, science, arts, business, education, engineering and government. Why? Because all these fields need legal advisors for legal procedures.
A Law degree will equip you with the necessary skills to analyse various problems, enhance your critical thinking skills, research about legal issues and solve them with strong reasoning.
A degree in Law will teach you to always learn to expand your knowledge and see subject matters at different facets. You will also constantly learn new strategies to solve any issues or disputes.
“The power of the lawyer is in the uncertainty of the law.”
- Jeremy Bentham

Important Note: In order to practise law in Malaysia, you must obtain a license by passing either the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) or Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) examination.
After completing your degree, you will have to sit for your licensing exam. Upon passing it, you must complete a compulsory internship for 9 months, also known as Pupillage or Chambering.
Law students get a reputation for clocking up the library hours because each week you need to learn what the law actually is and academics’ opinions of it from scratch, and neither of these will be particularly short.
Maybe you were a debater. Maybe you took part in public speaking. Either way, you’re fine speaking in front of a crowd, calm enough to get your point across, and collected enough to convince them that you’re right!
If you think they exaggerated how much Marshall had to study to become a lawyer in How I met Your Mother, I’ve got some bad news for you. Lawyers need to work extremely hard, and this usually involves sleepless nights and the burning of too many midnight oils.
