Hello Syahira,

Unfortunately, you cannot apply for UPU this year as the application for this year has already closed. You will have to wait for next year's application in February to April.

However, if this is too long a time for you to wait, you can try applying for the second intake that the public universities have in September. For this intake, you have to apply directly on their official websites instead of through UPU.

Hope this helps. We wish you all the best!

Hi Pharah,

It depends how different are the programmes. If it's still in the same field, then it's acceptable but if it's too different, then you might not be allowed to. For example, if you studied a degree in mass communication and want to do a specialisation in a medical field, that is not possible. The only way to go about this is to do a degree that is related to the postgraduate field you want to study. Even if it's in the same field, do check the entry requirements of the master's programme first because some may require specific qualifications.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask if you have any more queries :)

Hello Jessie,

Unfortunately, you cannot reapply for UPU as you are already currently enrolled in a public university. However, if you are not happy with the university or course you are currently studying for, you can try to apply to switch courses or universities.

You can find a step-by-step guide here to apply for transfer. Please take note that you will need to have legitimate reasons on why you want to change your course or university. The accepted reasons are listed in the article given.

Hope this helps. We wish you all the best :)

Hi Alynsa,

Yes, that's entirely possible. You will be eligible to pursue a degree in TESL/TESOL in any private university, provided you meet their entry requirements.

If you're interested, IUKL offers a degree in TESOL. The next intake is in November.

Hope this helps. Wishing you the very best. :)

Hello Winson,

Can you please tell us your highest qualification? This is because a Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree are both different levels of study, where you must have a Bachelors Degree before you can actually apply for a Masters Degree.

Besides that, to be able to apply for a Bachelor's Degree, you will need a pre-university qualification like STPM, Foundation, Matriculation, Diploma, etc. as well.

Therefore, we will need the details of your highest qualification to be able to help you choose the most suitable course for you.

We hope to hear from you soon :)

Hello Muqri,

The usage of the word "honours" depends on the home-country of the university that is issuing the degree to you. For UK/Commonwealth universities, honours degrees are automatically given to you as long as you fulfill the CGPA requirements for the course. For Australia and New Zealand, students will have to take an extra year of research and complete a full thesis before they can obtain their honours degree. In the US, students will have to take extra honours classes and complete extra projects to be offered the honours title.

As University Malaya is a public Malaysia born in a Commonwealth country, it is very likely that they will be following the UK model. In order to graduate with honours, you will need to fulfill the CGPA requirements of your course to get first class honours, second class honours, and third class honours. Anything below that will be regarded as a pass, where you will get your degree without honours.

Here is a link to UM's first degree study regulations. Please refer to page 47 for the conferment of degrees with honours:
http://myum.um.edu.my/doc/skr/Kaedah%20&%20Peraturan%20UM%202010/dokumen%202012/University%20of%20Malaya%20%28First%20Degree%20Studies%29%20Regulations%202010.pdf

Hope this clarifies your questions :)

Hi Syahira,

Yes, you can apply for a degree at a government university with a foundation course from a private university. However, it will have to depend on whether that specific university accepts a foundation from IPTS or not. Keep in mind that UPU will also prioritise students from IPTAs first before moving on to IPTS candidates.

Therefore, to check whether the university you want to enter accepts your qualification, head on over to the UPU website and click on the "Syarat Am and Syarat Khas Program" link. Two categories will pop up, so click on the "STPM/Setaraf" category link, and the page will open up for you to check which universities accept your course.

To do that:
1. Under "Universiti Awam," pick the university that you want to attend
2. Under "Kategori," pick "Kelayakan Setaraf"
3. Under "Aliran," you will see the "Foundation IPTS" choice. Pick that one.
4. Under "Fakulti," choose the faculty of the field of study that you want to further your studies in.

The results will then show the courses that you can apply for through UPU for the government university with your IPTS foundation course. If there are no results shown, that would mean that IPTS foundation is not accepted at that university. However, don't give up, just because it is not accepted at one university does not mean that other universities don't accept it. It is also always better to try than do nothing at all.

Hope this helps. We wish you all the best!

Hello Yasmin,

There are a few ways you can apply for universities abroad. Here are some common ones that people usually use:

1. Apply directly through the university's website
- If you are very sure on which university you are aiming for and which course you want to study, you can apply directly to the university through their official website. This method usually brings the fastest results as the university will get your application directly from their website. Besides that, if you have any questions about the university and course, you can go to their counsellors directly to get your questions answered.

2. Apply through an education portal for overseas universities
- Although Afterschool is also an education portal, we are currently only catering to local universities in Malaysia. This method will depend on which country you are planning to go to, as different portals cater to universities from different countries. For example, if you are interested in studying in the UK, you can go to https://www.ucas.com/ as they focus on UK universities, while https://educationusa.state.gov/ provides advising for studying in the US.

3. Apply through an agent in Malaysia
- You can also apply through agents in Malaysia to study overseas. However, we advise you to practice caution with this method as not all agents are legitimate and scams are known to have happened in the past and present. Therefore, please do your research before going with this method.

Hope this helps. We wish you all the best!
