COURSE OVERVIEW

Our BDS is delivered over 5 years, where Year 1 & 2 covers Phase 1 Pre-Clinical Subjects. Year 3 onwards students cover Clinical Subjects and spend most of their time in our state-of-the-art facilities that includes 3 Student Polyclinics with 51 dental units each as well as a well-equipped Prosthetic Laboratory.


The BDS programme is a comprehensive course dedicated to providing value-based dental education utilizing up-to-date technologies to ensure student satisfaction in acquiring clinical experience required for general dental practice.


Hospital dentistry, community programmes, general medicine and general surgery postings have been arranged with collaborative agencies to facilitate teaching-learning activities. The arranged postings allow acquisition of knowledge, clinical skills, and effective communication skills in the real working environment.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Exams
Detailed entry requirements

SPM/ O Levels or equivalent

5 Bs each in: Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics; and Mathematics/ Additional Mathematics; and another subject (except Art/ KSI)

UEC

B4 each in 3 subjects in Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics/ Mathematics/ Advanced

STPM/ A-Levels

Grades BBB, ABC or AAC in 3 subjects in Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics or Mathematics (Combination of A Level or STAM and STPM is allowed to fulfil the entry requirement.)

Matriculation or Foundation in Science or pre-dental programme

CGPA 3.0 (out of 4.0) in 3 subjects in Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics or Mathematics AND provided the course is not less than 1 year and completed in the same institution.

Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) entry to Dentistry programme

Grade B4 each in 5 subjects in Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics; and Mathematics; and Advanced Mathematics

Australian Exams/Certificate

Monash University Foundation Pre-University Program (MUFY), or University of New South Wales (UNSW) Foundation, or Western Australia Curriculum Council, or HSC Sydney Australia, or Trinity College Foundation Studies, or Australian Universities Foundation Programmes, or South Australian Matriculation (SAM), or Victorian Certificate of Education, Australia Year 12 or equivalent:

  • Aggregate or average of 80% or the equivalent of B in 3 subjects in Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics or Mathematics Or 80% ATAR provided the subjects include in Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics or Mathematics

National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3, or New Zealand Bursary

Average of 80% in 3 subjects in Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics or Mathematics

Canadian Pre-University (CPU), or Canadian International Matriculation Programme (CIMP)/ Canadian Grade 12/13*

Average of 80% in 3 subjects in Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics or Mathematics

Indian Pre-University

Average of 70% in 3 subjects in Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics or Mathematics

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme

A minimum of 30 points overall AND Attained a minimum score of 5 each in 3 of the following subject in Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics or Mathematics with a minimum of 2 at Higher Level (HL) and 1 at Standard Level

Diploma in Health Sciences or equivalent

CGPA 3.0 (out of 4.0) AND provided the course is not less than 5 semesters or 2 ½ years and completed in the same institution. AND at SPM/ O Level or its equivalent with minimum 2 Bs in any 2 subjects in Biology; and/or Chemistry; and/or Physics AND Credits in 3 subjects in English; and Mathematics or Additional Mathematics; and another subject

Degree in Medical Sciences (MBBS or equivalent)

CGPA 3.0 (out of 4.0) Pass a bridging course at a year 2 level before entering to year 3 Note: The candidate can be exempted for the first year (direct entry into second year) and can also be given exemption for other relevant courses (e.g Basic Medical Science & General Surgery and General Medicine)

Degree in Sciences/ Life Sciences

CGPA 3.0 (out of 4.0)

Degree in the Arts or Humanities

CGPA 4.0 (out of 4.0)

Notes

i) Malaysian citizen seeking employment in the public sector must fulfil the criteria set by the Public Services Commission of Malaysia (SPA).
ii) A person with any of the following shall be disqualified from entry into a dental programme:

  • found guilty of offence(s) affecting the human body;
  • recent or serious dishonesty e.g., cheating at examinations, falsification of documents, plagiarism;
  • serious physical or mental disorder;
  • serious communicable disease(s) for which there are no available acceptable methods of protection.
 iii) The English Language competency requirement is mandatory only for international students:
