COURSE OVERVIEW

  • The first phase of 2 ½ years (5 semesters) is conducted in the Manipal Campus in India. The basic sciences and pre-clinical subjects are covered in 4 semesters. During the 5th semester, students commence their clinical training. This semester in India exposes them to the morbidity profile related to the prevailing socio-economic conditions.
  • The second phase of 5 semesters (2½ years) is at the Melaka Campus, Malaysia. Clinical training is undertaken at the Melaka General Hospital, Muar Hospital, Jasin Hospital, Tangkak Hospital and at the Community Health Centres. The academic programme is student-centred with an emphasis on self-directed learning, group discussions and problem-based learning.
  • The internal standards and quality are ensured through the office of the Dean and Heads of Department at MMMC as well as Heads of Departments from the Melaka General Hospital.
  • External standards and quality are assured by periodic review by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) as well as the Malaysian Medical Council.

5 Bs each in: Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics; and Mathematics/ Additional Mathematics

UEC

B4 each in 3 subjects in Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics/ Mathematics/ Advanced Mathematics

STPM / A-Levels

Grades BBB, ABC or AAC or CGPA 3.0 (out of 4.0) in 3 subjects in Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics or Mathematics (Combination of A Level or STAM and STPM is allowed to fulfil the entry requirement.)

*Matriculation or Foundation in Science or Pre-Medical programme

CGPA 3.0 (out of 4.0) in 3 subjects in Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics or Mathematics Minimum grade for each subject is C (GP 2.0) AND provided the course is not less than 1 year and completed in the same institution.

UEC entry to medical programme

Grade B4 each in 5 subjects in Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics; and Mathematics; and Advanced Mathematics

Australian Exams/Certificate

Monash University Foundation Pre-University Program (MUFY), or University of New South Wales (UNSW) Foundation, or Western Australia Curriculum Council, or HSC Sydney Australia, or Trinity College Foundation Studies, or Australian Universities Foundation Programmes, or South Australian Matriculation (SAM), or Victorian Certificate of Education, Australia Year 12 or Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT):

  • Aggregate or equivalent of B in 3 subjects in Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics or Mathematics Or 80% ATAR provided the subjects include in Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics or Mathematics

National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3, or New Zealand Bursary

Average of 80% in 3 subjects in Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics or Mathematics

Canadian Pre-University (CPU), or Canadian International Matriculation Programme (CIMP)/ Canadian Grade 12/13 , or Ontario Secondary School Diploma Grade 12

Average of 80% in 3 subjects in Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics or Mathematics

Indian Pre-University

Obtain Eligibility Certificate from National Medical Commission India, Pass the NEET* Exam; and Average of 70% in 3 subjects in Biology; and Chemistry; and Physics or Mathematics

*NEET – National Eligibility cum Entrance Test ** The NEET is required for Indian Citizen who wish to work in India [subject to fulfilling the National Medical Commission (Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate) Regulations, 2021 dated 18 November 2021 and any other regulations] *** Those who do not intend to work as a medical practitioner in India must provide a signed letter of undertaking witnessed by a Lawyer or Commissioner of Oath. This letter of undertaking must clearly state that they will not seek registration with National Medical Commission of India.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme

Minimum overall score 33 points, 2 science subjects (Biology and Chemistry) at Higher Level (HL) and Mathematics at HL AND attained a minimum score of 5 each in Biology; and Chemistry; and Mathematics *This requirement is effective starting from January 2024

Diploma in Health Sciences or equivalent

CGPA 3.5 (out of 4.0) AND provided the programme is not less than 5 semesters or 2 ½ years and completed in the same institution. AND at SPM/ O Level or its equivalent minimum 2 Bs in any 2 subjects Biology; and/or Chemistry; and/or Physics AND Credits in 3 subjects in English; and Mathematics or Additional Mathematics; and another subject

Degree in Health or Pure or Applied Sciences

CGPA 3.0 (out of 4.0) for entry to 5-year medical programme

Degree in the Arts or Humanities

CGPA 3.5 (out of 4.0) for entry to 5-year medical programme

Notes

i) The minimum age requirement for entry into a medical programme is 18 years old during admissions.
ii) Malaysian citizen seeking employment in the public sector must fulfil the criteria set by the Public Services Commission of Malaysia (SPA).
iii) A person with any of the following shall be disqualified from entry into a medical programme::

  • found guilty of offence(s) affecting the human body; and/or
  • recent or serious dishonesty e.g., cheating at examinations, falsification of documents, plagiarism; and/or
  • serious physical or mental illness; and/or
  • serious communicable disease(s)

 iv) The English Language competency requirement is mandatory only for international students.
