COURSE OVERVIEW

The School offers both an MPhil and a PhD in computer science. The MPhil is a shorter two year programme, whilst the PhD is usually three years full-time. Students who successfully complete their MPhil may continue onto PhD level if they so choose.

Most research programmes are based on the research interests of the staff members within the School. However, if you are privately funded and wish to pursue research in alternative areas we can give you the opportunity to consider projects in other areas.

Particular research areas of interest are:

agent-based systems

computer vision

evolutionary computation

hypermedia

machine learning

neural computation

operational research

Entry requirements

First class or upper second honours degree (or international equivalent) in computer science, mathematics, or another relevant discipline. This may be supplemented by an appropriate MSc. Other equivalent qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applicants must have graduated from an approved university

English language requirements

IELTS: 6.0 (no elements below 5.5) TOEFL (iBT): 79 (minimum 17 in Writing and Listening, 18 in Reading, 20 in Speaking) PTE (Academic): 55 (minimum 51) IELTS and TOEFL test results must be less than 2 years old and all IELTS must be the academic version of the test
