Geoscience has always been the centre of all modern natural resource industries, starting from exploration phase, through to their development and production phase. This programme has been designed to provide students with a strong understanding of geology and geophysics that relate to exploration, petroleum discovery, development and production. The Bachelor of Technology (Hons) in Petroleum Geoscience degree at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS emphasises on quantitative geosciences, thus requiring strong fundamentals in mathematics and physics, followed by a thorough coverage of basic geology courses such as Physical Geology, Minerology and Petrology, Structural Geology, Stratigraphy and Palaeontology, and Geological Field Mapping. At higher levels, students are exposed to more petroleum geoscience related courses such as Clastic and Carbonate Sedimentology, Geochemistry, Seismic Acquisition and Processing, Seismic Interpretation, Formation Evaluation, and Seismic Imaging. Applicants wishing to enroll at UTP for undergraduate programmes must possess a minimum of 1 (one) of the following qualifications:
STPM Pass with at least Principal C (or 2.00) in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
A-Level or Equivalent
Pass with at least Grade C in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
International Baccalaureate (IB)
Pass with minimum 24 Points including at least Point 4 in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
Matriculation
Pass Matriculation Program in relevant field from an Institution which is recognized by the Malaysian Government with at least a final CGPA of 3.00/4.00
Foundation in Relevant Field from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS
Pass Foundation Program in relevant field from UTP with at least a final CGPA of 2.00/4.00
Foundation in Relevant Field from a Recognized Institution
Pass Foundation Program in relevant field from an Institution which is recognized by the Malaysian Government with at least a final CGPA of 3.00/4.00;
Diploma in Relevant Field from a Recognized Institution
Pass a Diploma Program (Level 4, Malaysian Qualifications Framework-MQF) in relevant field from an Institution which is recognized by the Malaysian Government with at least a final CGPA of 3.00 / 4.00
Higher National Diploma (HND) from Other IPT Recognized by the Malaysian Government
Pass Higher National Diploma (HND) (Level 4, Malaysian Qualifications Framework-MQF) in relevant field with at least Merit Grade or 60%
Australian Matriculation Programme
Pass Australian Matriculation Program with at least Grade C (OR 60%) in Mathematics OR •Specialised Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry: •Year 12 Certificate, Australian Capital Territory •Higher School Certificate (HSC), New South Wales •Northern Territory Certificate Education (NTSE) •Queensland Senior Certificate •South Australian Certificate of Education •Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) •Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) •Western Australia Certificate of Education (WACE)
