COURSE OVERVIEW

The Department emphasizes in-depth knowledge dissemination on the aspects of cell and molecular biology through teaching and research. This includes fundamental and advance theories and techniques of cell manipulation and application. The objective of the programme is to produce student who understand the molecular concept and characteristics of various disciplines of science and biotechnology such as microbial, forensics, medical, industrial, plant and animal biotechnology. Department offers both undergraduate and post graduate programmes. To date, the Department has more than 70 post-graduate students, comprising of locals and foreigners who are currently pursuing either PhD or MS. Areas of research include biodiversity, crop improvement, drug discovery, cell tissue culture, protein expression and molecular-cellular interaction. The has produced many graduates who have been successfully employed in higher learning institutions, research institutes and other industries. Our dedicated lecturers have published their research work in refereed journals and presented their research findings at national and international level.

 

Admission Requirements



  • A minimum C Grade at GCE Ordinary (O) level in any two (2) subjects chosen from Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics/Additional Mathematics.


  • Credits at GCE Advanced (A) level in:



    • Mathematics/Additional Mathematics


    • One (1) Science subject


    • Two (2) other subjects
