Hi Ernadia Faizzahtul Nabeela,
Biomedical science and biomedical engineering overlap in many ways but essentially the main focus is different. Biomedical science is rooted more in research opportunities and emphasises subjects such as human anatomy, genetics, microbiology, human development, and immunology. Research and observation is the focus of biomedical science.
Biomedical engineering combines the biology and medical knowledge with engineering principles with the purpose of creating devices or procedures for those who seek medical treatment. Thus the course would focus strongly on subjects such as advanced mathematics, physics and chemistry, which are needed in constructing biomedical devices and procedures. Application is the main focus in biomedical engineering.
Hope this helps to clear up the two!

Hi Yao,
A degree in psychology would most likely be able to land you an internship in a speech therapy department/institution, because psychology is very intertwined with clinical language sciences, and covers the basics of language impairment in the course. As for what institution you should go for, it's hard to choose between Help, Nottingham and Monash as they all offer psychology degrees of good quality, and each have their own independent strengths. But you may check the reviews of the universities on the Afterschool website to get an honest opinion of what each university is like.
Check for reviews of the institutions here:

Degree
To become a speech therapist, you will need a degree in Speech Sciences. You don't have to go to foreign soil to pursue this course, as UKM offers a degree in Speech Sciences. USM is the only other institute that offers a similar degree, which is a Bachelor of Health Science (Speech Pathology). After obtaining one of these degrees, added with some clinical training, you may become a Speech-Language Pathologist/Therapist (SLP).
Alternatively, you may pursue a different degree, perhaps in psychology/biomedical sciences/science as you had intended, and then obtain a Masters of Speech Language Pathology to practice as an SLP. However, these clinical Masters program are not available in Malaysia.
As for pathway, the fastest track to getting into a Speech Sciences degree programme would be to take Foundation in Science. You would need a decent CGPA too, ranging from 2.75 to 3.00 depending on the institution.
If you're interested, IUMW, AIMST, and MAHSA all offer Foundation in Science. If you are keen on applying, just fill in the bar on the right and one of our counselors will get in touch with you.

Hi Tan Zu Wei,
Biology is a broad subject that biomedical science is a part of. Biomedical science is an applied science that studies biology in more detail how cells, organs, systems and tissues function and affect the other parts of the body.
With a degree in Biology, you can go on to pursue careers in different fields of biology such as microbiology, neurobiology and genetics.
For more information about what you can do with a Biology degree, you can read about it here: https://afterschool.my/biology.
Hope this helps! Let us know if you need further assistance.

Hello Amirah,
Biomedical science is a degree that focuses on cells, organs, and the system functions of the human body, which is highly relevant to understanding and finding new treatment methods for human sickness and diseases. Take note however, that this degree does not offer a medical training or license.
The study pathway of biomedical science is after your matriculation, you will be completing your Bachelors in Biomedical Science. The entry requirements for each university defers so you will have to make your choice depending on your matriculation results.
As for whether UKM or USM is better, the world university rankings by biological science subjects on QS World Rankings show that USM is ranked 251-300, while UKM is ranked 351 - 400. Choosing the best university will also depend on your own personal preferences, such as location, fees, accommodation choices, etc. But if your main concern is their rankings, then USM would be a better option.
Hey there Amirah,
Upon completion of SPM, you can choose to take either one of the pre-university courses such as A-Levels, Form 6, Matrikulasi, Foundation, ADTP, Diploma, etc.) Whichever one you choose, opt for the one in science stream.
You will need to obtain at least : -A-Level: Minimum 2Cs, including Chemistry and Biology / Physics or -STPM: Minimum 2Cs, including Chemistry and Biology / Physics; or -Australian Matriculation: Minimum of ATAR 65, or -Foundation in Science: Minimum CGPA of 2.50 or -Asasi/Matrikulasi: Minimum CGPA of 2.50
in order to be eligible to apply for a biomedical science degree later on.
After completing one of the programmes above, you can proceed to do a Degree in Biomedical science. This will take you approximately 4 years.
Do check out the institutions that offer Biomedical Science by clicking on this link (https://afterschool.my/biomedical-science-courses) Hope this helps.
