The curricula for most degree programmes at AIMST are drawn from the University of Bristol in the UK.
Most components of the degree programmes include writing, research and computer training to prepare students for work.
AIMST University is a private university that caters to both local and international students.
As of now, AIMST University assists all students in need of financial aid via external funding e.g. PTPTN. Students can also apply for external scholarships such as Sin Chew Daily Foundation, Hong Leong Foundation, Kuok Foundation, Yayasan Tunku Abdul Rahman Scholarship, Penang Future Foundation Scholarship, Indus Education Fund and MIED Loan (a special education loan for Indian students).
AIMST University provides accommodation for all students, which includes full security and wardens. It is located at about 10-15 minutes walking distance from the main university building. Meals are provided meals 3 times a day, including weekend and public holidays (4 types of food available). Laundry service and clinics are also available until 9 p.m., with an additional RM530 charge per month.
Transportation is provided by AIMST University for all practical students in hospital training. The university is located about 15-20 minutes from the town of Sungai Petani and approximately 1 hour from the Penang International Airport. Besides driving, you can also travel directly from the airport upon arrival via taxi or Grab.
AIMST University provides ample parking space for students with their own vehicles with full security included and 230 acres surrounded by the green campus.
Amanjaya Mall is one of the biggest shopping malls in Penang and is a mere 15 minutes away from the campus, where there is a cinema, bowling alleys, karaoke and various other activities for students to enjoy with their friends. There are also many restaurants that students will certainly be spoilt for choice on what to eat. AIMST University is also located near Penang Island, where students can travel to enjoy the breeze and fresh air. Langkawi Island is also nearby and is known as the Pearl of Kedah, so students will not want to miss out on spending time at the beach.
There are many places nearby the campus that offers student discounts, such as Starbucks, OldTown White Coffee, Pizza Hut, Domino’s Pizza, and Marrybrown.
AIMST University has a 24-hour security system. Just last year, AIMST introduced the Student Information Management (SIM) that aims to control students in and out of campus. The system requires students to scan their IDs at the main guardhouse before they leave and after they have arrived at the campus. At the same time, parents or guardians will receive the acknowledgement of the ID scan via SMS.
Dental Surgery, Medicine, Pharmacy
Students can apply to AIMST University by submitting their SPM trial results when booking their place in the university. After the SPM results are out, the university will refer to the results as well.
From 2001-2017, 1,568 AIMST University medicine graduates and doctors have been working in various government hospitals. Engineering graduates can apply to any industrial company, as their academic certificate is accredited by the Board of Engineers Malaysia, a signatory to the Washington Accord. Students from all courses in AIMST University MUST undergo practical practice. In terms of job opportunities, the following companies and organisations are recommended:
Students from MBBS: 4 government hospitals in northern region i.e. Hospital Sg Petani, Hospital Alor Setar, Hospital Kulim and Hospital Kepala Batas
Students from BSc Dental Surgery: AIMST Dental Institute
Students from BSc Pharmacy: 2 types of practical practices i.e. hospital pharmacy & industrial pharmacy
Students from BSc Physiotherapy: Amanjaya Specialist Hospital in Sungai Petani, Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital in Taiwan and other physiotherapy-registered centres
Students from BSc Engineering (Electric & Electronic): Sony EMCS Sdn. Bhd.
Students from BSc Biotechnology: Bio-Corns Sdn. Bhd. in Johor
Graduation ceremonies are held once a year typically in October or November, depending on the year.
