Bachelor of Science (Hons) Actuarial Sciences is a professional degree that trains actuaries who are equipped with the capabilities to analyse and manage risk especially in the banking and insurance industry. Besides that, private sectors such as financial institutions, corporations, investment companies and brokerage firms have high demand for skillful actuaries in risk management and financial consulting services. QIUP’s Actuarial Science programme is designed according to the topics and subjects required by the professional examinations of Society of Actuaries (SOA), Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) and Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA). Students in this programme are encouraged to take the examinations during their academic years. The university will provide guidance and support for the students to enrol in those professional examinations. Besides the common subjects which are designed for the programme, QIUP’s Actuarial Science programme has included 3 major finance specialisations (Islamic Banking and Finance, Banking and Financial Planning). This is to ensure that the graduates of this programme are not only able to analyse the business / finance problems using mathematical model, but are also able to provide specific financial solutions to the company.
Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM)
Pass Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) with two full passes in 2 subjects and with a credit in Mathematics at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level; OR
Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM)
Pass Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) with a minimum Jayyid Rank in 2 subjects and with a credit in Mathematics at the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level; OR
General Certificate of Education Advanced (”A”) Level
Pass A-Level/New South Wales Higher School Certificate (NSW HSC) with passes in 2 subjects; OR
Diploma
Pass Diploma in a related field of study with a minimum CGPA of 2.5. Candidates with CGPA below 2.5 but above 2.0 may be admitted subject to rigorous internal assessment process; OR Pass Diploma in any other field with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 and with a credit in Mathematics at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia SPM (or equivalent) level; OR
Matriculation / Foundation
Pass QIU foundation in Business/Science Programmes with CGPA ? 2.0; OR Pass South Australian Matriculation Programme (SAM)/ Australian Matriculation Programme (AUSMAT)/ University of New South Wales (UNSW) Foundation/ Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY)/ Canadian International Matriculation Programme (CIMP)/ Canadian Pre-University (CPU); OR Pass Matriculation/ Foundation/ Asasi from any IPTA/ IPTS/ Institution that is allowed to offer pre-university programme with a minimum CGPA of 2.00; OR
Unified Examination Certificate (UEC)
Pass Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) with a minimum of Grade B in 5 subjects including Mathematics; OR
Other Qualifications
Pass International Baccalaureate with average grade point ? 2.0 based on three advanced level subjects. A minimum total point is 20, excluding bonus points; OR Other qualifications will be assessed based on Senate’s recommendation and referred to MQA for approval on a case by case basis.
