Hello Sethala,

It honestly depends on the type of job career you're aiming for and how much you're willing to spend after your bachelor's degree.

The master degree is more broad compared to a certificate so there might be more job opportunities available for you. A master's degree may hold more significance and weight to your CV when your submit one because certain fields and higher-level positions prefer or require a master's degree.

On the other hand, a certificate is a perfect choice for individuals who want a more focused, more practical, more economical choice compared to a master's degree. The certificate is seen as a viable option for students to come up to speed with their course quicker and become more employable quicker too.

Engineers prefer the master's degree even though it might be costly as the investment for it will pay off in the future in the field when you rise up in ranks. Starting salaries can double or even triple quickly when you rise up in ranks with a master's degree in hand.

Do have a look at "Master’s degree or graduate certificate?" for more information

Now, there are various MBAs that you can take after engineering to boost your chances of employment. An engineer powered up with an MBA usually commands an even better pay than any other course. Here are some ideas of MBAs you could take as they are the most popular specializations; 5 Popular MBA Specializations to Pursue after Engineering

Universities, where you study, and courses you take do matter as employers tend to check your master's degree rather than your bachelor's degree. So in that case, do choose carefully on where you want to study and the reputation of the university with the course desired as it will determine many future job opportunities. So do a lot of research on the desired universities of your choice and find universities that have good reviews on the course desired.

I hope you find this helpful and good luck!

Hi Nik Ahmad Uzair,

Mechanical engineering is a field that combines a number of different subjects such as mathematics, physics and materials science, and it is a field that focuses on manufacturing and maintaining mechanical systems. In most cases, both physics and chemistry are required as it will regularly overlap with the studies in the field of chemical engineering involving the study of the different materials and such.

Hope this helps! Do ask us any further questions if you need more assistance.

Hello,

It is entirely possible to specialize in Mechatronics with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. To become a Mechatronics engineer you would ideally need a degree in Mechatronics. However other degrees such as degrees in electronics, electrical or mechanical engineering also allow for you to specialize in the area.

That being said, your degree in mechanical engineering should make you eligible to pursue a masters in Mechatronics provided you meet the university's entry requirements. See which universities offer the course here.

Hope this helps!

Hello Chin Teik,

Congratualtions on having completed your diploma! As for whether you can shorten your degree time by transferring credits from your diploma, it will have to depend on the particular university's degree module with the module that you have taken with your diploma. You will have to contact the university directly with your transcript so that they can cross reference it with their module in order to determine if your credits are transferable to your degree.

Hope this helps :)

Hi Faris,

Firstly, congratulations on your results! :)

This is many student's dilemma so don't worry about it. We're here to help you out. You can start by asking yourself what you want to do in the future and what are your interests. It also helps to know the job demand and salary scale.

Medicine is a very popular course among students. We have a glut of Medical Officers (doctors) but not enough specialists. So if you really want to make it big in the medical industry, we suggest you to specialise in a particular field of medicine such as dermatology, anaesthesia, ENT, orthopaedics, oncology, etc. But it is not easy to achieve this. Here is your pathway after SPM if you want to be a specialist:
SPM --> Pre-u (STPM / Matrics / Asasi / A-Levels / Foundation / Diploma, etc.) (min 1 year) --> MBBS (5 years) --> Housemanship (2 years) --> Compulsory service (1 year) --> Certified Medical Officer --> Postgraduate majoring in specific studies (4-5 years) --> Specialist.
As you can see, the route to become a specialist is no joke. It is takes at least 13 years after SPM but your pay will be good and there is demand.

Now let us explain about engineering. Engineering will always be in demand because we constantly need engineers to build, fix and maintain structures, softwares, mechanics, etc. Almost everything you see is a results of an engineer. This job has emerged as one of the top paying jobs in Jobstreet and the Critical Occupations List in 2017 as written in The Star. If you don't fancy the long study duration and grueling midnight shift of a doctor, then we suggest you to choose engineering.

Thank you so much, I'm still in need of clarification on what course should i be taking as i do not want my studies (master) to go unnoticed and with no value. In that case, you have said that furthering studies in masters is better than taking up skills certificates for better employment opportunity and salary rise. When comparing MBA with other masters in engineering specifically, which one is better? Also, when master is considered, how to evaluate which course and where to study, do university matter?

Hello Sethala,

It is recommended that you continue your studies and receive a masters in engineering rather than just completing at a bachelor's degree. There are more job options, higher employment rate and higher salary fees for individuals who have a masters in engineering. So, it will be worth it if you continue your studies to a masters degree or even a PhD in engineering.

The MBA in engineering is a very beneficial option as it will give you the business management skills. Many engineering companies today require such skills as it allows the employees to lead teams and get projects done on time and within budget. There are various MBAs that you could take; Engineering Managing, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Work Experience, and Engineering Geographical Location.
