Cybersecurity Professional Using Laptop With Security Interface

Computer Science and Cybersecurity are closely related, but they prepare students for different technology careers. Computer Science offers broader opportunities in software development, artificial intelligence (AI) and data, while Cybersecurity focuses on protecting digital systems from threats. Students interested in both can also study Computer Science with a Cybersecurity specialisation. So, which degree should you choose?<h2>What's the Difference Between Cybersecurity and Computer Science?</h2>Computer Science focuses on developing computing systems and software, while Cybersecurity concentrates on protecting those systems from attacks and security weaknesses.<table style="border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;" border="1"><tbody><tr><td style="width: 14.4501%;">Comparison</td><td style="width: 43.6061%;">Computer Science</td><td style="width: 41.8159%;">Cybersecurity</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 14.4501%;">Main focus</td><td style="width: 43.6061%;">Building software and computing systems</td><td style="width: 41.8159%;">Protecting systems and information</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 14.4501%;">Core subjects</td><td style="width: 43.6061%;">Programming, algorithms, databases</td><td style="width: 41.8159%;">Network security, cryptography, digital forensics</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 14.4501%;">Practical work</td><td style="width: 43.6061%;">Developing applications and solving computing problems</td><td style="width: 41.8159%;">Investigating threats and testing security</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 14.4501%;">Career flexibility</td><td style="width: 43.6061%;">Software, AI, data and cybersecurity</td><td style="width: 41.8159%;">Security analysis, ethical hacking and digital forensics</td></tr></tbody></table>Both degrees share computing fundamentals, but students develop different technical specialisations as they progress.<h3>How Much Does Each Degree Cost in Malaysia?</h3>Based on course information available through Afterschool, indicative tuition fees for selected Malaysian degree programmes are:<table style="border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;" border="1"><tbody><tr><td style="width: 60.2302%; text-align: center;">Field of study</td><td style="width: 39.7698%; text-align: center;">Indicative total tuition fees</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 60.2302%; text-align: left;">Computer Science</td><td style="width: 39.7698%; text-align: center;">RM40,000&ndash;RM150,000</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 60.2302%; text-align: left;">Cybersecurity and security-focused computing</td><td style="width: 39.7698%; text-align: center;">RM42,000&ndash;RM116,000</td></tr></tbody></table>These figures represent selected course listings, not the minimum or maximum fees nationwide. They mainly reflect private-sector programme fees and do not necessarily include accommodation, living expenses or other charges.Explore the<a href="https://afterschool.my/course-guide/computer-science"> Computer Science Course Guide</a> for course information and fee comparisons.<h2>What Will You Study in Each Degree?</h2>Both degrees involve programming, mathematics and computing systems. However, their specialised modules differ.<table style="border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;" border="1"><tbody><tr><td style="width: 17.2634%;">Subject area</td><td style="width: 36.445%;">Computer Science</td><td style="width: 46.1637%;">Cybersecurity</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 17.2634%;">Programming</td><td style="width: 36.445%;">Programming fundamentals, web development</td><td style="width: 46.1637%;">Python, scripting, secure programming</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 17.2634%;">Mathematics</td><td style="width: 36.445%;">Computing mathematics, probability, statistics</td><td style="width: 46.1637%;">Mathematical concepts for computing</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 17.2634%;">Computing systems</td><td style="width: 36.445%;">Operating systems, computer architecture</td><td style="width: 46.1637%;">Network administration, system security</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 17.2634%;">Specialised modules</td><td style="width: 36.445%;">Algorithms, software testing, software design</td><td style="width: 46.1637%;">Digital forensics, penetration testing, security investigations</td></tr></tbody></table>These are typical examples. Actual subjects depend on the programme and its specialisation.Cybersecurity students must first understand how computing systems work before learning how attackers exploit weaknesses. This means both degrees require technical knowledge, although students apply it differently.<h2>Is Cybersecurity Harder Than Computer Science?</h2>Neither degree is automatically harder. The difficulty depends on the subjects involved and your academic strengths.Computer Science can be challenging because students study programming, algorithms, mathematics and software development.Cybersecurity involves networking, operating systems, security investigations and understanding how attacks happen. For example, Computer Science students may spend hours debugging software, while Cybersecurity students might investigate suspicious network activity or identify system vulnerabilities. If you enjoy mathematics and building applications, Computer Science may suit you. If you prefer investigating problems and protecting systems, Cybersecurity could be more interesting.<h2>Can You Study Computer Science with a Cybersecurity Specialisation?</h2>Yes. Some Malaysian programmes combine Computer Science with specialised cybersecurity subjects.Students build foundations in programming, databases, algorithms and operating systems before studying areas such as network security, cryptography and secure software development. This offers a middle ground for students who enjoy computing but also want to develop cybersecurity expertise. However, a hybrid degree does not necessarily cover every subject found in a dedicated Cybersecurity programme. Compare the actual modules, practical training and final-year projects before deciding.<h2>What Are the Entry Requirements in Malaysia?</h2>Students can enter Computer Science and Cybersecurity degrees through recognised qualifications such as STPM, Matriculation, Foundation, A-Levels or a relevant Diploma.Mathematics is particularly important for both fields.Under the<a href="https://www2.mqa.gov.my/qad/v2/2024/Aug/PS%20Computing%203rd%20Edition%20-%20updated%20version%2031.7.24.pdf"> Malaysian Qualifications Agency's Computing Programme Standards</a>, certain computing pathways require an SPM credit in Additional Mathematics or Mathematics together with a relevant Science, Technology or Engineering subject and reinforcement Mathematics.Admission requirements vary by programme. Students without Additional Mathematics should check whether alternative pathways are available.<h2>Which Degree Offers Better Career Opportunities?</h2>Computer Science generally provides broader computing career options, while Cybersecurity offers more focused preparation for security-related roles.<table style="border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;" border="1"><tbody><tr><td style="width: 43.3504%;">Computer Science graduates</td><td style="width: 56.6496%;">Cybersecurity graduates</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 43.3504%;">Software Developer</td><td style="width: 56.6496%;">Cybersecurity Analyst</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 43.3504%;">Data Analyst</td><td style="width: 56.6496%;">Security Operations Centre (SOC) Analyst</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 43.3504%;">AI Engineer</td><td style="width: 56.6496%;">Penetration Tester</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 43.3504%;">Software Test Engineer</td><td style="width: 56.6496%;">Digital Forensics Analyst</td></tr></tbody></table>These pathways overlap. Computer Science graduates can enter cybersecurity with relevant security skills, while Cybersecurity graduates may qualify for selected software roles.Practical experience is important in both fields. In an<a href="https://www.thestar.com.my/starpicks/2026/04/03/shaping-the-next-generation-of-cybersecurity-experts"> April 2026 interview with The Star</a>, Associate Professor Dr Thang Ka Fei highlighted how simulated cyberattacks, cybersecurity competitions and industry collaboration help students develop workplace-ready skills.<h3>How Much Can Graduates Earn in Malaysia?</h3>The following are published junior-level monthly salary benchmarks from<a href="https://www.randstad.com.my/s3fs-media/my/public/2024-02/randstad-malaysia-2024-market-outlook-salary-guide-digital-report.pdf"> Randstad Malaysia's 2024 Salary Guide</a>.<table style="border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;" border="1"><tbody><tr><td style="width: 69.5652%;">Role</td><td style="width: 30.4348%;">Monthly basic salary</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 69.5652%;">Junior Software Engineer (1&ndash;2 years' experience)</td><td style="width: 30.4348%;">RM3,500&ndash;RM6,000</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 69.5652%;">Junior Security Engineer (under 5 years' experience)</td><td style="width: 30.4348%;">RM3,000&ndash;RM8,000</td></tr></tbody></table>These are historical industry benchmarks, not verified 2026 fresh-graduate salary ranges. Salaries depend on experience, technical skills, employer and specialisation.<h2>Should You Choose Cybersecurity or Computer Science?</h2>Choose Computer Science if you enjoy programming, developing software and exploring different technology fields.Choose Cybersecurity if you're interested in investigating digital threats, protecting networks and understanding how cyberattacks work.Consider Computer Science with a Cybersecurity specialisation if you want broader computing foundations alongside security knowledge.Ultimately, compare the subjects, practical training, fees and career options before choosing. You can also explore Afterschool's<a href="https://afterschool.my/career/cybersecurity-specialist"> Cybersecurity Specialist Career Guide</a> to understand where a cybersecurity qualification could lead.<h2>Frequently Asked Questions</h2><h3>Is Cybersecurity Part of Computer Science?</h3>Cybersecurity is closely related to Computer Science because both fields involve programming, operating systems and networks. However, Cybersecurity focuses specifically on protecting technology from threats. Students can study it as a standalone degree or as a specialisation within Computer Science.<h3>Can Computer Science Graduates Become Ethical Hackers?</h3>Yes. Computer Science graduates can become ethical hackers by developing skills in networking, penetration testing and vulnerability assessment. Cybersecurity projects, practical laboratories, internships and relevant certifications can help them build the expertise required for authorised security testing.<h3>Do You Need Additional Mathematics to Study Cybersecurity in Malaysia?</h3>Not always. Some computing programmes accept students with SPM Mathematics and a relevant Science, Technology or Engineering subject, subject to additional Mathematics reinforcement where required. However, entry requirements differ, so students should check the specific qualifications needed for their chosen programme.<h3>Do Cybersecurity Students Need to Be Good at Coding?</h3>Cybersecurity students need programming knowledge, but the depth depends on their intended specialisation. Security analysts may use Python and scripting to investigate threats, while application security and malware analysis can require stronger programming skills.<h3>Can You Switch to Cybersecurity After Completing a Computer Science Degree?</h3>Yes. Computer Science graduates already possess useful foundations in programming, operating systems and computer networks. They can develop cybersecurity expertise through specialised training, practical projects, professional certifications or postgraduate qualifications.<h3>Which Pays More in Malaysia: Cybersecurity or Computer Science?</h3>Neither qualification automatically leads to a higher salary. Cybersecurity specialists and experienced software engineers can both earn competitive salaries. Pay depends on the job, technical expertise, experience and employer rather than the degree title alone.<h3>Is Cybersecurity in Demand in Malaysia?</h3>Yes. Malaysian organisations employ cybersecurity professionals in security operations, engineering, incident response and risk management. However, entry-level positions can be competitive. An<a href="https://afterschool.my/careers-advice/how-do-you-become-a-cybersecurity-professional-in-malaysia"> Afterschool analysis of cybersecurity recruitment</a> highlights the importance of specialised skills and practical experience.<h3>Will AI Replace Cybersecurity or Computer Science Jobs?</h3>AI is changing both professions by automating some programming, monitoring and analytical tasks. However, professionals are still needed to design reliable systems, investigate complex threats and manage security risks. Students should develop AI literacy alongside strong technical and problem-solving skills.

Cybersecurity vs Computer Science in Malaysia (2026 Guide)

Cybersecurity vs Computer Science in Malaysia: Which Degree Should You Choose?

Ask most people what a student council does, and you'll hear the same shortlist: plan events, hand out free merch, pose for orientation photos. We at Afterschool wanted to see what actually happens behind that, so we spent a day with the Student Representative Council (SRC) team at Multimedia University (MMU), following one exco member from the morning rush to the afternoon crunch. We expected event planning. What we got looked a lot more like a day inside a small company.<h3>What Does a Student Representative Council (SRC) Actually Do?</h3>An SRC is the official, student-elected body that represents students to university management. At MMU, representatives are voted in every year to become the voice between thousands of students and the people who run the campus. The job breaks into three parts:<ul><li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Student advocacy: collecting concerns and pushing them up to management.</li><li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">University liaison: acting as the official channel between students and administration.</li><li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Event and budget oversight: planning campus-wide initiatives and managing the money behind them.</li></ul>Events are the visible 10 per cent. The rest, however, is an experience that can significantly boost your resume..<h3>9:00 AM &ndash; The Campus Walkthrough: Stakeholder Management in Action</h3>The day starts on foot. Every few minutes, someone stopped our host: a student with a facilities complaint, a club rep chasing funding, a junior needing advice. Each needed a different approach. The frustrated student needed to feel heard. The club rep needed a clear answer. Same person, three modes, ten minutes. That's stakeholder management, even if nobody on campus calls it that. Active listening and feedback-gathering are not soft skills. They're the foundation of how account managers and team leads operate all day.<h3>11:30 AM &ndash; Inside the Council Room: Real Responsibility Under Pressure</h3>By late morning, we sat in on an internal discussion: a campus-wide initiative, a fixed budget, a deadline that wasn't moving. We tried to contribute and quickly realised how out of our depth we were. Every clever idea ran into a constraint we hadn't considered. That's the part nobody warns you about. Student leadership isn't about having good ideas. It's about having ideas that survive reality, then owning the result. That's real-world accountability, years before most people meet it at work.<h3>How Joining the SRC Prepares You for the Corporate World</h3>A degree gets you shortlisted. The evidence that you can operate with people gets you hired. Here are leadership skills the SRC builds:<ul><li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Diplomacy and negotiation: Pitching to management is negotiation with real stakes.</li><li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Crisis and conflict management: Handling anxious or competing groups under pressure.</li><li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Project and budget management: Owning a timeline, a budget, and a team, then being judged on delivery.</li></ul>None of these show up on a transcript, but are revealed in interviews.<h3>Is Joining Student Leadership Worth It for University Students?</h3>Yes, if you go in with your eyes open. Balancing SRC work with academics is genuinely hard. But you graduate with a degree plus management experience, your resume becomes a story instead of a list, and you build confidence that compounds. Once you've made your case to university management, a job interview feels a lot smaller.<h3>The Takeaway</h3>University is an incubation space: a low-risk place to lead, fail, recover, and grow before any of it hits a payslip. If you're on the sidelines, look into the clubs, committees, and leadership opportunities at MMU and universities like it. The most valuable thing you build at university might not be your GPA. It might be the person you become while chasing it.

We Spent a Day Shadowing a Student Representative Council. It Looked a Lot Like a Full-Time Job

Nathanael, first from left and Alden, third from left, at the Singapore Invitational Meet 2026

An unexpected email gave two KYUEM students, Alden and Nathanael, the opportunity to represent Malaysia at the International Economics Olympiad (IEO) in Singapore. After performing well at the Malaysia Economics Olympiad, both were selected for the national team. What followed was an experience that challenged them beyond their A-Level studies and saw Team Malaysia win two gold awards.<h2>The Email That Changed Everything</h2>Neither student expected to be selected. For Alden, who was participating in the competition for the first time, the news came as a surprise."It was a very surreal moment for me," he recalls.Nathanael was sitting in class when the email arrived. He was equally surprised but excited about representing Malaysia and meeting students from around the world who shared his interest in economics.<h2>Balancing Olympiad Preparation with A-Levels</h2><img src="https://img.afterschool.my/storage/uploads/images/6ad1ebdcab3ca_1792142300.jpg" alt="Alden on the left, Nathaniel on the right" width="750" height="500" />Alden on the left, Nathanael on the rightPreparing for an international competition while studying for A-Levels was not easy. For Alden, preparations coincided with his AS Level examinations. He had to manage his time between revision, coursework and Olympiad preparation.Nathanael faced a different challenge. Although A-Level Economics gave him a strong foundation, the Olympiad required him to approach problems differently and apply concepts beyond the classroom syllabus. Both students had to adjust to these demands while keeping up with their studies.<h2>Twenty-Four Hours, One Goal</h2>One of the most demanding moments came during the team-based business case challenge.Team Malaysia had just 24 hours to research a business problem, analyse data, develop recommendations and prepare a presentation for the judges. With so much to complete, most team members had very little sleep.Their efforts paid off when Team Malaysia received the Gold Award for the Case Study Presentation, recognising their analysis, recommendations and presentation.<img src="https://img.afterschool.my/storage/uploads/images/6ad1ec65d577f_1792142437.jpg" alt="Nathaniel, first from the left and Alden, 2nd from the right." width="750" height="563" />Nathanael, first from the left and Alden, 2nd from the right. The team also secured the Gold Award for Best Overall Performance Team, based on their combined results across the individual and team components. For Nathanael, the challenge was memorable because it allowed him to apply economics to a real-world situation. Instead of answering examination questions, he and his teammates had to think like business consultants, analysing a problem and presenting possible solutions.<h2>Why Teamwork Made the Difference</h2>According to Alden, teamwork was a major reason behind their success. Each team member brought different strengths. Some were better at financial calculations, while others excelled in economic analysis, business strategy or presentations.By combining their abilities, they were able to tackle the business case together rather than relying on one person's knowledge. The experience taught Alden how important it was to recognise others' strengths and work towards a common goal.<h2>Learning Beyond the Syllabus</h2>Beyond economics, both students gained skills they could carry into future experiences. For Alden, the biggest lesson was resilience. He learnt to stay composed when facing setbacks, adapt to unexpected challenges and continue working towards his goals.Nathanael, meanwhile, developed greater confidence in communicating his ideas. The Olympiad required him to explain economic concepts and recommendations clearly to teammates, judges and audiences, helping him become a more confident speaker and presenter.<h2>The Support Behind Every Achievement</h2>Alden and Nathanael also credited their teachers and friends at KYUEM for supporting them throughout their journey.Their teachers helped by answering difficult questions, providing guidance beyond the A-Level syllabus and encouraging them to explore opportunities outside the classroom.Friends and peers also played an important role. Their encouragement gave both students the confidence to take on challenges they might otherwise have overlooked. For both students, having a supportive community at KYUEM made a difference as they prepared for an international competition.<h2>One Opportunity Can Change Everything</h2>When asked what advice they would give other students, Alden and Nathanael had a similar message: don't be afraid to try.Coming from a STEM background, Alden never expected an economics competition would lead him to represent Malaysia internationally.Nathanael also encouraged students to explore unfamiliar opportunities, even when they seem intimidating.Their experiences showed how trying something new can lead to unexpected achievements, friendships and opportunities.<h2>More Than Medals, More Than a Competition</h2>For Alden and Nathanael, the International Economics Olympiad was about more than winning awards. It gave them the chance to represent Malaysia, meet students from different countries and apply what they had learnt beyond the classroom. Most importantly, they returned with new experiences and skills that would stay with them long after the competition.<h2>Ready to Write Your Own Success Story?</h2>The achievements of Alden and Nathanael are a testament to what can happen when talented students are given the right opportunities, guidance, and support. At KYUEM, students are encouraged to go beyond the classroom through academic competitions, leadership opportunities, research initiatives, and university preparation programmes that help them reach their full potential.Whether it's representing Malaysia on the international stage, gaining admission to top universities worldwide, or discovering new passions and possibilities, every journey begins with a single step.<a title="Admission" href="https://sms.kyuem.edu.my/qs-kyuem/js/admission/page/MS0wMToxLTAy/online-admission-page" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Applications for the January 2027 Intake at KYUEM are now open.</a>The January Intake offers students an excellent opportunity to begin their A-Level journey earlier in the year, benefit from a supportive academic environment, and work towards their university ambitions with a clear head start. If a single email could open the door to an international achievement for Alden and Nathanael, imagine where your first step could take you.<a href="https://sms.kyuem.edu.my/qs-kyuem/js/admission/page/MS0wMToxLTAy/online-admission-page" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Apply now for the January 2027 Intake and start your own success story at KYUEM. 🚀</a>

A cybersecurity analyst protects an organisation's computer systems and data by monitoring suspicious activity, investigating security threats and responding to cyberattacks. Their work involves identifying potential dangers, examining digital evidence and helping prevent further damage.&nbsp;Interested in this career? Explore our article, [Internal link: How Do You Become a Cybersecurity Professional in Malaysia?] for the subjects, courses and qualifications to consider.<h2>What Does a Cybersecurity Analyst Do on a Daily Basis?</h2>Cybersecurity analysts spend much of their working day monitoring security systems, reviewing alerts and investigating suspicious activity. They also check for weaknesses in computer networks, prepare reports and work with IT teams to resolve security issues. One example comes from Microsoft cybersecurity analyst<a href="https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/microsoft-defender-experts/a-day-in-the-life-of-a-defender-experts-for-xdr-analyst/3932140"> Phoebe Rogers</a>, who investigated a suspicious login to an employee's account. Although the login had passed multifactor authentication, an additional identity check, she noticed unusual activity and examined the device, browser, location and IP address.Rogers explained what her investigation uncovered:"An attacker had successfully gained access to the account and thereby internal corporate resources."Further investigation revealed that a phishing email had led to multiple employee accounts being compromised. She documented her findings and recommended steps to secure the affected accounts. Her experience shows how cybersecurity analysts investigate routine security alerts, uncover hidden threats and help organisations take action before further damage occurs.<h2>What Do Cybersecurity Analysts Investigate?</h2>Cybersecurity analysts investigate threats that could expose confidential information, damage systems or interrupt business operations.<table style="border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;" border="1"><tbody><tr><td style="width: 29.2035%;">Cyber threat</td><td style="width: 70.67%;">What analysts investigate</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 29.2035%;">Phishing</td><td style="width: 70.67%;">Suspicious emails designed to steal login information.</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 29.2035%;">Malware</td><td style="width: 70.67%;">Harmful software infecting computers or networks.</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 29.2035%;">Ransomware</td><td style="width: 70.67%;">Attacks that lock files or systems and demand payment.</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 29.2035%;">Unauthorised access</td><td style="width: 70.67%;">Suspicious logins and access to restricted systems.</td></tr><tr><td style="width: 29.2035%;">Data breaches</td><td style="width: 70.67%;">Possible theft or exposure of confidential information.</td></tr></tbody></table>Jurgen Kutscher, Vice-President of Mandiant Consulting at Google Cloud, has highlighted how attackers continue to exploit security weaknesses and find ways to avoid detection.<h2>How Do Cybersecurity Analysts Respond to Cyberattacks?</h2>When suspicious activity is detected, analysts investigate the warning signs, determine whether an attack has occurred and help prevent further damage. The response generally involves four stages:<ol><li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Investigate: Examine security alerts, activity records and affected systems.</li><li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Confirm: Determine whether a threat is genuine and assess its impact.</li><li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Contain: Help isolate affected devices or block suspicious access.</li><li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Recover: Support system restoration and recommend improvements.</li></ol>These steps are consistent with the incident-response guidance published by the US<a href="https://csrc.nist.gov/pubs/sp/800/61/r3/final"> National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)</a>.<h2>How Have Cybersecurity Professionals Handled Real Cyberattacks in Malaysia?</h2>In October 2026, the <a href="https://www.sprm.gov.my/index.php?page_id=75&amp;articleid=463&amp;language=en">Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)</a> reported detecting and blocking approximately <a href="https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2026/10/13/be-on-high-alert-for-cyberattacks">80,000 to 90,000 cyberattack attempts daily</a>.Cybersecurity consultant Fong Choong Fook highlighted the growing automation of cyberattacks and the need for organisations to respond quickly.A recent example involved <a href="https://www.tabunghaji.gov.my/bm">Tabung Haji</a>, which detected suspicious activity on 7 October 2026. Its cybersecurity and technical teams responded through several measures:<ol><li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Containing the threat: Services were temporarily suspended to protect depositors.</li><li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Investigating the incident: Internal teams worked with external cybersecurity experts and national authorities.</li><li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Strengthening security: Security checks were conducted and additional safeguards introduced.</li><li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Restoring operations: Main services resumed by 12 October, with continued monitoring.</li></ol>According to<a href="https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2026/10/12/tabung-haji-services-back-following-cyberattack"> Free Malaysia Today</a>, depositors' savings remained safe, although three THiJARI functions still required recovery. The incident shows how cybersecurity teams investigate threats, protect systems and help organisations recover from attacks.&nbsp;Students can also explore<a href="https://afterschool.my/top-careers/what-are-the-fastest-growing-technology-careers-10-fields-students-should-know"> Afterschool's guide to the fastest-growing technology careers</a> to learn about related opportunities.<h2>Will AI Replace Cybersecurity Analysts?</h2>AI can detect certain cyberattacks and respond faster than humans, but cybersecurity analysts remain important for complex investigations and security decisions. In August 2026, Microsoft security researchers David Shiran and Ayelet Artzi <a href="https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security/blog/2026/08/04/129-seconds-disruption-microsoft-defender-stops-ransomware-qnet/">documented how Microsoft Defender</a> automatically isolated a compromised device at QNET within 128 seconds of a high-severity alert, helping stop an attack before it spread. The automated response allowed analysts to focus on investigating the incident rather than containing the immediate threat manually. As AI takes over more routine tasks, analysts will continue to play an important role in understanding threats, examining evidence and making security decisions.Explore<a href="https://afterschool.my/career/cybersecurity-specialist"> Afterschool's Cybersecurity Specialist Career Guide</a> to learn more about career opportunities and progression.<h2>Frequently Asked Questions</h2><h3>1.
