Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) was officially established in 1992, with its two pioneering faculties of that time, the Faculty of Social Science and the Faculty of Resource Science and Technology. The university grew in the following years, with four more faculties opening and a growing number of staff and students. UNIMAS now has 8 faculties specialising in Applied & Creative Arts, Cognitive Sciences & Human Development, Computer Sciences & Information Technology, Economics & Business, Engineering, Medicine & Health Sciences, Resource Science & Technology as well as Social Sciences. Besides that, the university has a total number of 14 institutes and support centres that ensures well facilitated studies and research for the students and staff. Postgraduate students and staff at UNIMAS receive international recognition for their work at the World Exhibition on Innovation, Research and New Technologies (INNOVA), the eAsia Awards, and from the Society of Satellite Professionals International (SSPI).

How to Apply to UNIMAS 2026

  1. Decide on your programme
    UNIMAS offers admissions for foundation programmes, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees for both local and international students.
  2. Check the entry requirements
    Ensure you meet the relevant requirements before applying:
    Local students: Relevant school certificates (SPM/STPM/A-Levels/Matriculation) as well as proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia and English (MUET)
    International students: Equivalent qualifications as well as English proficiency (IELTS/TOEFL)
  3. Prepare supporting documents
    Transcripts of academic results, IC (local) or passport (international), passport-sized photo, and other faculty-specific forms if needed.
  4. Submit your application
    For local students: Register and apply through UPUOnline, choose your preferred programme, upload required documents, submit before the deadline, and check your offer status online.
    For international students: Visit the UNIMAS IAD online application page, fill out the relevant forms, upload required documents, submit, and await your admission offer.
  5. Pay the fees and register
    Upon receiving an offer letter, pay the necessary fees (tuition, insurance, etc.) within the deadline and complete your registration. For international students, apply for a visa if necessary.
