Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) was officially established in 1992, with its two pioneering faculties of that time, the Faculty of Social Science and the Faculty of Resource Science and Technology. The university grew in the following years, with four more faculties opening and a growing number of staff and students.
UNIMAS now has 8 faculties specialising in Applied & Creative Arts, Cognitive Sciences & Human Development, Computer Sciences & Information Technology, Economics & Business, Engineering, Medicine & Health Sciences, Resource Science & Technology as well as Social Sciences. Besides that, the university has a total number of 14 institutes and support centres that ensures well facilitated studies and research for the students and staff.
Postgraduate students and staff at UNIMAS receive international recognition for their work at the World Exhibition on Innovation, Research and New Technologies (INNOVA), the eAsia Awards, and from the Society of Satellite Professionals International (SSPI).
