<p>Linguistics is the scientific study of key aspects of languages. It ranges from the study of a language's sound system and grammatical structure through to the cultural influence on the language, the integration of language and modern technology as well as the thorough analysis of meaning in language. It is a field of study that compares the structures of different languages and establishes linkages between them.<br /><br />Bachelor of Arts with Honours (Linguistics) is a 3-year degree programme that is specifically designed to produce quality and competitive graduates in the professional fields of education, language studies, publishing, translation, and research. This is a unique programme that is conducted in bilingual mode (Malay and English). It emphasizes on the linguistic knowledge of major languages in the world as well as Borneo languages (Iban, Bidayuh, Melanau, etc).</p>

<p>The minimum requirements for entry into most undergraduate programmes are as follows:-<br /><br />1. A good pass in the Sijil Tinggi Peperiksaan Malaysia (STPM) with a minimum of:<br /><br />Grade C (NGMP 2.00) in Pengajian Am; AND<br /><br />Grade C (NGMP 2.00) in two (2) other subjects, OR<br /><br />2. A good pass in Sijil Matrikulasi KPM/Asasi Sains UM with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 OR</p><p>3. A recognised Diploma in relevant fields AND<br /><br />3.1 Malaysian University English Test (MUET)<br /><br />3.2 At least a credit for Bahasa Melayu in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)</p>

Academic Requirements

<p>Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) was officially established in 1992, with its two pioneering faculties of that time, the Faculty of Social Science and the Faculty of Resource Science and Technology. The university grew in the following years, with four more faculties opening and a growing number of staff and students. UNIMAS now has 8 faculties specialising in Applied &amp; Creative Arts, Cognitive Sciences &amp; Human Development, Computer Sciences &amp; Information Technology, Economics &amp; Business, Engineering, Medicine &amp; Health Sciences, Resource Science &amp; Technology as well as Social Sciences.
