What is the AIMST MBBS Programme?

AIMST's Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) runs full-time for five years across 10 semesters. Established in Kedah Darul Aman, the Faculty of Medicine is currently welcoming its 30th batch of first-year students. With over 2,500 alumni practising locally and globally, AIMST has a long track record in Malaysian private medical education.

The curriculum is an outcome-based integrated programme divided into two phases: the Preclerkship Phase (Years 1 & 2) and the Clerkship Phase (Years 3, 4 & 5). Problem-based learning, early patient and community exposure, ethics and professionalism training, and structured clinical skills development are all built into the programme from Year 1.

Accreditation & Recognition

The MBBS is accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and listed in the Malaysian Qualifications Register. It also appears on the Malaysian Medical Council's recognised qualifications list, supporting entry into Malaysia's provisional registration and housemanship pathway.

AIMST's Faculty of Medicine has been listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (Avicenna) since 2010, providing internationally recognised standing. The faculty also maintains an extensive panel of external examiners and advisors from across the nation and abroad for continuous quality improvement.

If you plan to practise outside of Malaysia, research that destination country's specific licensing, examination, and verification requirements independently. Build this plan early as timelines can be long.

Full MBBS Programme Structure — Year by Year

A pre-admission medical examination is also required to assess fitness and communicable disease status. Plan this early, as timing can affect final enrolment.

AIMST MBBS Intake Dates 2026

AIMST runs a single MBBS intake per year in October. There is no second or mid-year intake for the MBBS programme.

2026 Intake Date

October 12, 2026
International practical deadline: ~September 14, 2026. Planning target — not an official cutoff. Confirm directly with AIMST.

How to Apply — Step by Step

  1. Validate your eligibility — Match your academic qualifications and English proof to AIMST's MBBS entry requirements.
  2. Prepare your documents — Compile transcripts, identity documents, English test results, and academic verification from your awarding body.
  3. Submit your application — Use AIMST's official application process for your intake year and follow the current submission instructions.
  4. Complete aptitude test & interview — If shortlisted, prepare structured answers on your motivation, workload management, and ethical thinking.

Year-by-Year Clinical Progression

Years 3 & 4: Daily hospital sessions combined with structured teaching and small-group theory sessions on campus. You rotate across clinical departments, building discipline-specific competence.

Year 5: Using a shadow houseman model, students shadow junior doctors, clerk patients, and participate in ward processes — preparing for real housemanship responsibilities.

AIMST also runs a clinical skills centre where simulation-based practice takes place before tasks are performed in real ward settings.

Housemanship & Registration After Graduation

Malaysia's Medical Council describes housemanship as a two-year structured internship in approved settings. You will need provisional registration and an employment offer tied to a housemanship placement. Documentation completeness and placement availability both affect entry, not only graduation.

Scholarships, PTPTN & Financial Aid

AIMST publishes scholarship options and indicates that medicine-related programmes can be eligible under certain merit-based schemes for strong pre-university results. Scholarship availability changes by intake — request the latest list and criteria before making financial plans based on them.

PTPTN Loan

AIMST confirms PTPTN loan applications are available for degree programmes, including MBBS. Students apply online after registration, with university staff supporting the process. Build a buffer for living and clinical costs beyond tuition.

Other Funding to Explore

A practical approach combines scholarships with a structured loan (PTPTN or similar) plus personal or family savings. One loan option referenced in AIMST materials notes MBBS support at MYR 10,000 per annum — treat this as a starting point to investigate, subject to eligibility rules and approvals.
