With the recent start of walk-in vaccinations for individuals aged 18 and above, the higher education sector has hopes of reopening.

The National Association of Private Educational Institutions (Napei) stated that there might be a chance for higher education institutions to reopen soon if there are a high number of vaccinated students in the sector.
“Our members have been encouraging their students to be vaccinated in anticipation that those allowed to return to campus will be those who have received both doses,” stated Napei president Elajsolan Mohan.
From the August 4 to August 22, the walk-in will be expanded from Malaysians aged 40 and above to those aged 18 and above in the Klang Valley. Foreigners divided into those two categories can get their vaccinations from August 9-11 and August 12-22 respectively.
The Malaysian Association of Private Colleges and Universities (Mapcu) stated that it is important to resume on-campus sessions as soon as possible, especially for students who require on-campus facilities such as labs and workshops.
President Datuk Dr. Parmjit Singh stated that, “As soon as this is achieved, Mapcu will make the necessary representations to the higher Education Ministry to seek approval for the operation of campuses – at least on a staged basis, leading eventually to full operations.”
Harry Tan, its secretary-general, said that teachers must lead the way in showing students the importance of achieving herd immunity.
With schools reopening in stages from September 1, as of July 27, a total of 73.5% of teachers nationwide had received at least one dose of the vaccine.
