331 Excellent SPM 2020 Students Receive RM120 million in Scholarships and Loans from TNB

Through its Yayasan Tenaga Nasional (YTN), Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has issued RM120 million in convertible loans and scholarships to 331 students who were able to further their studies at higher learning institutions this year.

In a statement made on August 14, 2021, TNB stated that of that amount, RM35 million has been set aside to sponsor 120 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia SPM 2020 high achievers to further their studies in fields such as engineering, computer science, analytics and data science, account and business studies.

TNB also mentioned that recipients were chosen out of the 8,400 applications that were submitted for the YTN scholarship which covers tuition fees, living allowances, purchase of laptops, books and other needs.

The chairman of TNB, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid stated that 100 of the YTN recipients will further their studies at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and the other 20 will be going overseas. Scholarship recipients were chosen based on their academic qualification, leadership quality, ad their active participation in curriculums.

Mahdzir stated that, “The students will also have the chance to be one of TNB’s workforce after they complete their studies and we hope that they can become TNB’s future leaders.”

Furthermore, 221 students were chosen to receive the YTN convertible loans reaching a total of RM85 million, to further their studies at UNITEN and other public universities.

Since its establishment in 1993, YTN has spent more than RM1.2 billion in financial assistance for students.
