The life of tertiary students in higher learning institutes around the country have been severely disturbed by the COVID-19 pandemic and extension of the movement control order (MCO).
Classes are being held online until the 31 December 2020, even as students begin their first semester of the 2020/2021 academic year.
Sadly, students from the B40 group category can’t afford to purchase a laptop to participate in their online courses. It is worse in some households, as students need to hog for the only available laptop or computer in their house and compete with other siblings who sometimes end up having classes at the same time.
Thank goodness the office of ADUN Bukit Gasing is taking matter into their own hands by embarking on a new campaign called #Laptop4Siswa that aims to help tertiary students in need to own a laptop by urging the public to donate.
The registration date for the #Laptop4Sisa campaign would be open from now until the 20 October 2020. Malaysian students with a valid offer letter from their institution and identification card would be able to benefit from this campaign.
Stand Up Malaysia has assisted in making this campaign possible. Stand up Malaysia is a youth organization whom founders believe in youth and women empowerment.
Students experiencing financial difficulties to purchase a laptop could apply online and students that are applying need to provide details like background, household income and a copy of their parents’ payslip with their application.
A laptop would be delivered by post and a tracking number would be sent to students who are successful in their application.
Individuals that wish to donate can contact the office of ADUN Bukit Gasing, (03-79547490 / [email protected]) to arrange to drop off any laptops for donations that will be distributed accordingly to deserving students across Malaysia. Donors can also contact StandUp Malaysia (014 669 1320 / [email protected]) for enquiries on how and where to deliver the laptops. Donors can also sign up online to express their interest to donate.
