In era of digitalization, digital skills are now an important benchmark for future graduates and job seekers.

While most are familiar with the digital world – as evident from a 2018 research, in which there are 28.7 million Internet users! – digital skills are a whole other matter. They actually go far beyond the technology itself.

According to UNESCO, digital skills are defined as the use of digital devices, communication applications, and networks to access and manage information. In the working world, that means fluency in inputting information digitally on a range of devices and software packages, and the confidence to move between devices and using them equally.

As one of the leading ASEAN countries that’s currently adapting to a digital economy, heavy emphasis has been made to ensure Malaysians youth are equipped to face it. And this is where Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) comes in.

Established in 1996, MDEC is an agency under the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia (KKMM) with a close to 25-year track-record of successfully leading the ICT and digital economy growth in Malaysia. MDEC’s aspiration is to firmly establish Malaysia as the Heart of Digital ASEAN, a regional digital powerhouse launching global champions to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution, ensuring our digital economy will drive shared prosperity for all Malaysians.

Which is why MDEC is warmly inviting Malaysians to join #MyDigitalMaker Virtual Fair 2020 from 5th October to 11th October 2020, with the theme “Digital Skills Today, Workplace of Tomorrow”.

Premiering virtually for everyone across the country, this fair aims to spark a child’s interest in STEM-based learning, ensuring they are future proof for the workforce. The fair is also aiming on ensuring that educators are prepared to embrace the digital future.

For a single week, #MyDigitalMaker Fair 2020 will host a variety of exciting virtual booth exhibitions, webinars, workshops, tutorials and competitions for students and adults alike.

The fair will focus on various digital fields such as Extended Reality – which encompasses virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality – alongside Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Digital Arts. This year’s fair will also touch on Digital Community, by celebrating the efforts by the digital maker communities during COVID-19.
