<p>The Foundation Year extends over two semesters, delivered in Semester I [September to January] and Semester II [January to June]. Each semester comprises 12 direct-contact teaching weeks, 1 week of revision and then&nbsp;2 weeks of examinations and provides students with a solid grounding in the biomedical sciences as well as providing them with the necessary IT skills to operate effectively within the College&rsquo;s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). The course is delivered as a series of stand-alone and integrated modules with a modularised assessment. <br /><br />The FY modular structure conforms to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The programme consists of 8 modules, amounting to 60 ECTS credits in total. Some modules carry 5 credits while others carry 10. The rationale behind the introduction of 10 credit modules into the FY was primarily to decrease the assessment burden on students in Semester I (being mindful of the challenges faced by some students on making the transition to tertiary level education).<br /><br />Students must pass all modules to complete. Students may then begin first-year of Junior Cycle in Medicine at either the RCSI or UCD. A firm offer will be provided upon the release of final results.</p>

Pre-Medical Foundation Year

Foundation is a pre-university course offered to the students prior to their university degree education. The Foundation Course can be taken up by students internally at any local university as well as in partnership with the partnering overseas universities. Study a Medicine Degree in Ireland & Malaysia

<p>Malaysia finally moved to double digits in the number of foreign branch campuses that have set up shop here, as the acclaimed Penang Medical College (PMC) was granted foreign university branch campus status by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and will now be known as the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) &amp; University College Dublin (UCD) Malaysia Campus, or RUMC for short.</p><p><img src="https://img.afterschool.my/storage/uploads/images/getadvice/76955/5ad99703e3158.jpg" style="width: 100%;" class="fr-fic fr-dib"></p><p style="text-align: center;"><em>Image via pmc.edu.my</em></p><p>The university owes its lengthy name to the fact that it, unlike the other nine branch campuses in Malaysia, has the distinction of having two co-owners &ndash; RCSI and UCD. To top that off, RUMC is the only Irish branch campus on our soil and the only one set up via &lsquo;conversion&rsquo; instead of from the ground up. While RUMC is its new name, time will be taken to phase out the name of old, so a grace period is to be expected.</p><p>The momentous achievement was lauded by all involved and served as a testament to the quality of the medical programmes offered not just by Ireland, but Malaysia as well. Perhaps it had something to do with the unique structure of PMC&rsquo;s medical programmes, which saw its students spending 2.5 years in Dublin before returning to Malaysia for the remaining 2.5 years in PMC&rsquo;s teaching hospitals, which has proven to be a masterstroke.
