Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS)

Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) is located at the city of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, East Malaysia. Established in the year 1994, it has 13 schools and 9 research institutes as of now and it is the ninth public university to be set up in Malaysia. UMS consists of three campuses currently. The first campus was sited at the site of Sabah Foundation Community College (KKYS) on the grounds of the Sabah Foundation itself. In 1999, UMS opened an International Campus in Labuan and an Agriculture Campus at Sandakan in 2011. 

 

Despite its relative newness, UMS is equipped with world-class facilities. It also boasts its own UMS Museum that features culturally-significant exhibitions and an impressive sports complex. Students from UMS are active participants in international competitions and have shown their research and research products and inventions at international exhibitions.

 

UMS is also heavily involved in environmental concerns. As of September 2020, UMS signed an MOU with  Sime Darby Plantation Berhad to translate locally bred knowledge into actions on the ground, giving an opportunity to the university to be a part of the effort in restoring forests in oil palm landscape.
