<p>Chiropractic is a branch of healthcare that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the bones, joints and muscles of the body, especially involving the spine, and the effects of these conditions on the nervous system and health in general. Chiropractic practitioners (also referred to as chiropractors) commonly treat musculoskeletal symptoms, such as back and neck pain, headaches, pain in the arms or legs, and many other conditions. Chiropractic offers patients a hands-on approach to healthcare that is drug-free, including patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors utilise many common medical tests, such as clinical examination, x-rays, and blood tests, to determine the most appropriate care for each patient.</p>
<p>The primary objective of chiropractic evaluation is to locate disorders of the segments (vertebrae) of the spine, known as &ldquo;subluxations,&rdquo; in which the movement and/or position between adjoining vertebrae is restricted and/or misaligned. Chiropractors correct subluxations using &ldquo;chiropractic adjustments,&rdquo; sometimes referred to as &ldquo;spinal manipulations,&rdquo; by applying specific forces to the involved joints using the hands or an instrument. A chiropractic adjustment restores the abnormal movement and/ or position of the affected joint, which reduces the strain on the surrounding tissues. Thus, correcting subluxations alleviates pain and muscle tightness and permits healing. Chiropractors are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, stress management, and lifestyle counselling, but they do not prescribe drugs or perform surgery. Many chiropractors also use physical therapy modalities, such as massage, ultrasound, electric and heat therapy, as well as the application of structural supports like tapes and braces. When chiropractic care is not the best treatment option for a patient&rsquo;s condition, or co-management with another healthcare provider is warranted, chiropractors are trained to refer patients to other members of the healthcare team. <p>The IMU Medical Biotechnology programme has incorporated key features to prepare the modern Medical Biotechnologist for challenges beyond tomorrow. These features offer an appreciable advantage to students as there is significant emphasis on concepts and theories important for creating a stable platform to develop technical know-how and skills. The technical skills of the student begins with learning in a controlled laboratory environment. <p>Pharmaceutical chemistry is an interdisciplinary science that deals with drug design and synthesis, drug formulation and testing, as well as the delivery of drugs in the body. In view of the increase in the occurrence of existing and new diseases, continuous work in the discovery of new drugs that have high therapeutic efficacies but minimal side effects is necessary. Pharmaceutical chemists play a significant role in this global effort in drug discovery and also in drug development. The IMU Pharmaceutical Chemistry programme introduces students to all aspects of the pharmaceutical industry, with a strong emphasis on the detailed understanding of the physical and chemical properties of chemical compounds as well as their reactions. Students are trained in the application of modern information and scientific technologies in drug development, safety and efficacy studies. Elements of team work, communication and lifelong learning skills are incorporated into the curriculum throughout the programme in order to prepare graduates who are versatile and adaptive in the future places of employment, which are not only limited to the pharmaceutical industry.</p>

Bachelor of Science (Hons) Pharmaceutical Chemistry

<p>The Postgraduate Diploma in Implant Dentistry Programme provides advanced training in implant dentistry designed for practitioners who wish to include implants into their clinical practice and to develop their skills to place implants in straight forward to advanced cases. The programme aims to develop the practitioner&rsquo;s knowledge and skill, so that he can operate with confidence in patient selection, diagnosis, investigations, treatment planning and execution of the planned implant procedure in straightforward to advance cases. The programme includes both onsite, offsite and online clinical training to enable practice to execute the clinical skills at the student&rsquo;s workplace or at IMU. Dental implantology is not considered a specialist discipline worldwide and thus no qualification in implant dentistry will be accepted for registration in the Specialist Register of the Malaysian Dental Council.</p>

<p><strong>Applicants are required to:</strong></p><ul><li>Bachelor of Dental Surgery or equivalent qualification. Registered as a dental surgeon with the Malaysian Dental Council (MDC) or equivalent in the student&rsquo;s home country. Postgraduate Diploma in Implant Dentistry

<p>Nutrition is the science that deals with the study of foods and nutrients and their effect on an individual. Dietetics is the practical application of nutrition in the prevention and treatment of disease. The graduates of this programme will be able to work as dietitians in the government and private sectors, providing healthcare services, food service management, and counselling in disease management and prevention. IMU offers a professional degree programme leading to a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Dietetics with Nutrition. This 4-year course prepares students with the professional and personal qualities required for dietetic practice in a variety of workplace settings. Traditional Medicine

<p>Chinese Medicine approaches health from a holistic manner in terms of prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. The range of treatments include herbal therapy, acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, tuina, bone and spine manipulations, dietary therapy, exercise therapy like qigong and taijiguan.<br /><br />In Malaysia, traditional and complementary medicine is big business with herbal imports being 3 to 4 times the value of western medicine. Naturally, the Ministry of Health recognises the importance of Chinese Medicine and is implementing policies related to training and registration of practitioners with the aim of integrating Chinese Medicine into the national healthcare delivery system.</p>

There, she learned the intricacies of food procurement and the entire kitchen operation, from sourcing ingredients to serving meals to patients. &ldquo;We had two assignments during that time &mdash; creating vegetarian menus for diabetic patients and working on a quality improvement project to enhance the food service.&rdquo;</p><p>Next, her community placement took her to Klinik Kesihatan in Seremban, where she provided outpatient counselling to patients. She and her group also gave a talk on diet control for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) to pregnant mothers, an experience that deepened her understanding of public health nutrition.</p><p>Her clinical placement was at Hospital Tuanku Ja&rsquo;afar in Seremban, a teaching hospital partnered with IMU. Here, Zi Jie managed patients with various acute and chronic conditions requiring dietetic-related services. &ldquo;All these experiences allowed us to learn how to be competent dietitians, providing the best care by using up-to-date information and recommendations.&rdquo;</p><p>This comprehensive practicum solidified her passion for dietetics, leaving her more determined than ever to pursue a career in the field.</p><p>Beyond technical skills, IMU&rsquo;s environment nurtured the development of vital interpersonal qualities that would prove crucial in her career. Yet, during her undergraduate years, Vicki&rsquo;s fascination with psychology stubbornly persisted. A total of 200 teams of three students each were challenged on their knowledge of Chemistry, in line with this year&rsquo;s theme, &lsquo;Chemistry Advancing Knowledge, Improving Lives&rsquo;.</p><p style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://img.afterschool.my/storage/uploads/images/getadvice/54104/598a9ae9a5ba5.jpg"><img class="alignnone wp-image-54119 size-full fr-fic fr-dii" src="https://img.afterschool.my/storage/uploads/images/getadvice/54104/598a9ae9a5ba5.jpg" alt="Mohd Firdhaus Bin Mohd Kamal, Form 5 student of SMK Tinggi Klang doing the dye separation in food and cosmetic experiment under the supervision of Dr. Cheong Kok Whye, Lecturer, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, School of Pharmacy, IMU." width="600" height="300"></a></p><p style="text-align: left;">Visitors eagerly explored the various activities organised throughout the day, including meeting with industry experts, watching a documentary screening, and participating in the many interactive workshops.&nbsp;Students also had the unique opportunity to &ldquo;get their hands dirty&rdquo; in activities such as making juice-filled caviar and creams, making home-made sanitiser, toothpaste and deodorant, as well as trying to separate dyes in food and cosmetics.</p><p data-empty="true"></p><p style="text-align: left;">One of the highlights of the event was the Poster Competition, which saw 58 participants put their understanding of chemistry and creative skills to the test. The winning poster with the theme &ldquo;Chemistry Advancing Knowledge, Improving Lives&rdquo; by Attika Afroz from MAZ International School walked away with RM350 while the second prize winner, Keenen Khy Vern Ravindran from Regent International School and third prize winner, Cheng Jia Teck from SMJK Confucian took home RM200 and RM100 respectively.</p><p style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://img.afterschool.my/storage/uploads/images/getadvice/54104/598a9ae9a8df3.jpg"><img class="alignnone wp-image-54121 size-full fr-fic fr-dii" src="https://img.afterschool.my/storage/uploads/images/getadvice/54104/598a9ae9a8df3.jpg" alt="Emeritus Professor Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Augustine S.H.
