  • The Skim Prihatin Pendidikan 1Malaysia or SPP1M loan won't be in full throttle this year. Loan processing for programmes abroad still pending

During the launch of the SPP1M in February, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced that the loan will be made available in June for twinning programmes and further studies abroad.

In a phone call, Puan Nora Idris, Head of Design Strategy at Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera (YPPB) confirmed that the SPP1M loan for programmes abroad has been put on hold at the moment due to some policy issues.

YPPB is the foundation that manages SPP1M.

According to her, Maybank accepts applications for programmes abroad but will take time to process until they have fully dispersed the loan amount for local programmes.

She added that Maybank is the only one offering this loan. RHB, another bank that's supposed to offer the loan, has not come on board. No tentative date was given.

Maybank will continue to accept applications for both local and overseas programmes but priority will be given for students in local universities.
