Sime Darby is a multinational corporation based in Malaysia. Starting out with plantation, the company is now also involved in other key growth sectors, such as property, motors, industrial equipment and energy & utilities. Recently, the company also started spreading its wings to the healthcare business. The company currently has a workforce of over 100,000 employees in 20 countries.
The CSR arm of Sime Darby, this foundation concentrates on five aspects of society – community development, education, recreation, the environment and arts & culture. The foundation serves to provide assistance, be it financial, knowledge or promotion, particularly to the less fortunate part of society. It aims to ensure that the disadvantaged receive opportunities that they may not get otherwise.
Each year, Sime Darby rewards high achievers by giving them the opportunity to further their studies, either locally or overseas. This gives these students a chance to nurture their talents, and also lets the company have a pick of the cream of the crop to join their organisation someday. Currently, Sime Darby offers two types of undergraduate scholarship programmes:
Applicants should be high achievers who are also well-rounded. Sime Darby prioritises students who prioritise academic excellence but are also aware of how important it is to give back to society and participate in extra-curricular activities. These students should also have great leadership qualities.
