Putrajaya Perdana Berhad (PPB), one of Malaysia’s top construction, property development and concession groups has unleashed the potential of 21 financially challenged students, setting them on the path to tertiary education by offering them annual scholarship awards.

At the Putrajaya Perdana Scholarship Awards 2016 ceremony, held at PPB’s office, Dato’ Rosman bin Abdullah, Group Managing Director, PPB said, “PPB is always seeking highly potential financially challenged students to provide them tertiary level education which if on their own they would otherwise not be able to obtain.

“Education of the younger generation has always been a close subject matter in our hearts as we strongly believe the young are our future leaders. When we set them on the right path, we are encouraging and motivating them to move on to greater heights,” Dato’ Rosman added.

The recipients of the awards came from all over Malaysia from East Malaysia as well as states in Peninsular Malaysia. They are academically deserving to pursue or intending to pursue higher education in local public/private universities/colleges.

The Annual Scholarship Programme is part of PPB’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to provide educational opportunities to the youth of the nation and to build a better future for the deserving and needy Malaysian students who would otherwise be denied of higher education due to financial constraints.

For the past 11 years, PPB has been supporting these students to have access to tertiary education, thus far sponsoring up to 97 high potential students who are financially challenged via the annual scholarship awards with a total value of more than RM1.3 million.

PPB strongly believes that education is key to help shape intelligent opinions, inculcate critical thinking and to encourage students to express their perspectives or point of views on things that matter in life. However, sad to say there are still a lot of students out there who are not able to go for higher education due to financial constraints.

“We hope our contribution can assist them to have the ability to continue studying and acquire knowledge, be an exemplary leader in the future and contribute to nation building and the society,” he added.

In order to be qualified as a recipient, these students must be Malaysian citizens and aged between 19-25 years old. Only full time students who already gained or intended to seek acceptance into local public/private universities/colleges are considered.

They must also achieve excellent results in SPM/STPM/Diploma/Matriculation or other relevant results.

Each student is offered RM9,000 per academic year. Students who have been selected are pursuing courses in Civil/Structural Engineering, Mechanical/ Electrical Engineering, Quantity/Building Surveying, Building/Construction Management as well as Business Administration.

Upon completion of their respective courses and graduation, the students are required to serve as an employee of PPB or any of its subsidiaries for a minimum of two years.

“I am truly grateful to PPB for accepting me as one of the recipients for this award. As an orphan, I have always wondered where my future lies. With this award, I will definitely study and work hard to achieve my dreams of becoming a professional Quantity Surveyor with integrity, commitment and responsibility,” enthused Encik Mohd Amin bin Mamat.

Ms. Leow Yee Jing, another recipient who is pursuing her Civil Engineering Technology Degree quipped, “I am so thrilled when I receive the offer letter from PPB. It is truly a wish come true. This scholarship will definitely spur me further to achieve my goals.”
