PSD scholars must work in Malaysia

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced that PSD scholars must work locally beginning this year.
Those who are not employed by the public sector upon graduation must secure employment with an approved private sector company in Malaysia.
Previously, PSD scholars who did not get employed by the government were released from their bonds.
TalentCorp, which was established last year to attract skilled workers says that this new requirement ensures ‘a strong return on investment on the 12,000 students who will be sponsored this year’.
In Singapore, this requirement has been a practice all this while, with the government even going so far as to make students who did not manage to get employment with them become teachers.
There are even graduates from Oxford University who are currently primary school teachers in Singapore.
This is a great way to ensure that our scholars come back to serve the nation. In fact, we at Afterschool.my made this suggestion last year to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin through an e-mail.
For your information, between 2003-2007, PSD sponsored 30,832 scholars, but only 4,920 of those joined the civil service, which is less than 16%!
