For more than 40 years, the Maybank Foundation Scholarship Award has provided scholarships and employment opportunities to more than 1,000 scholars. Ever year, Maybank offers 50 scholarships to promising students who wish to complete their tertiary education and pursue a career with the country’s largest financial services group.
The quest for talents has gone beyond the requisites like discipline, specific knowledge, cognitive capabilities and soft skills. In fact, students who are well updated with global issues is essential to becoming a professional.
“Maybank does not just focus primarily on academic excellence or recruit candidates based on a set of technical requirements,” said Aimy Rashidah Bt Zakariah of the Group Talent & Performance Management Group Human Capital at Maybank.
According to Aimy, the foundation looks for the ‘complete package’ such as strong leadership qualities, adaptable personalities and the ability to be flexible in completing tasks in an ever-changing work environment.
“These qualities are necessary to help promote a culture of innovation,” she added.
The application process for the Maybank Foundation Scholarship is extensive and extremely competitive. Short listed candidates are interviewed by a panel of interviewers. The foundation typically receives thousands of applications and last year, they received over 7,000 applications, the highest number in their history.
“Academic excellence is important but it is only one of the criteria we look for. We also look for qualities such as results-oriented attitude as well as candidates who go the extra mile,” she added.
Other areas considered include extra-curricular activities, leadership qualities and whether candidates possess common values with Maybank.
Central to bank’s educational initiatives, the Maybank Foundations Scholarship is accessible to SPM graduates who aspire to pursue their education in either local or overseas institutions. The foundation encourages applications from students who meet their eligibility requirements.
