President of the Malaysian Parents and Students Studying Medicine in Egypt, Safian Taiyib Hamidin said that both Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) and Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam (JPA) had frozen their fundings following the bloody conflict which took place two years ago.

Students have had to continue their education in the country using independent funding even after safety issues have long been resolved.

Parents have to fork out more than RM30,000 for annual tuition fees not inclusive of daily living costs. The decline in Ringgit value also contributes to the burden at 30% increase in tuition fees.

"To continue studies back in Malaysia would actually be even more expensive compared to studying in Egypt," he said.
