With SPM results having been announced, the inevitable plethora of scholarships have come streaming in for students to apply to, none bigger than the JPA Scholarship 2017. However, just like last year, many have been left confused as even more changes have come about. Many have been left scratching their heads. Can I apply? Do I qualify? What types of scholarships are offered now? Well don't worry, as always, Malaysia's No.1 education website, afterschool.my is always here to lend a helping hand. So read on as we break-down the JPA Scholarships 2017 for you. In simple terms, there are THREE different scholarships this year.
Applicantions are invited from candidates who sat for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) in 2016 for the first time to get sponsorship from the Public Service Department (PSD) in the form of a Convertible Loan (PBU) under the Special Programme for Japan, Korea, France and Germany (JKPJ) Year 2017. This sponsorship programme is open to all SPM 2016 leavers who are interested in engineering, science and technology (S & T) and social science in Japan, Korea, France and Germany. Students will be sponsored to attend preparatory courses before pursuing their first degree or diploma in the countries concerned.
Everyone can! As long as you're interested in Engineering, Science & Technology or Social Sciences long as you satisfy the following requirements:
Location: Preparatory course in Malaysia, then Degree course at either Japan, Korea, France or Germany
Discipline : Engineering, Social Sciences & Science & Technology
Application deadline: March 22, 2015, 5.00pm

The Program Penajaan 9A+ 2017 is an automatic sponsorship to outstanding students with Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM ) in 2016 who scored A+ in all subjects taken in the SPM 2016 with a minimum of nine (9) of the subjects were taken for further studies at universities in the country. Candidates will be offered sponsorships in the form of a Convertible Loan (PBU) to pursue preparatory courses until they obtain their First Degree.

Meaning, even if you took 11 subjects, but failed to score an A+ in just one of those subjects, while scoring an A+ in the other ten, we're sorry to tell you but you CANNOT apply. (Please note that with the recent announcement, students who scored 9A+ and above would be able to apply. We will make the necessary changes once it is stipulated on the JPA website). Location: Preparatory course in Malaysia, then Degree course at recognised IPTA & IPTS in the country
Discipline : STPM, Matriculation, Asasi & Foundation Studies as prepatory courses.

Program Penajaan Nasional (PPN) 2017 is a sponsorship of the 20 most outstanding students of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) in 2016 according to the list produced by the Ministry of Education, to study at leading universities worldwide. Candidates selected will be offered a sponsorship in the form of a Convertible Loan (PBU) to pursue a preparatory course geared towards a First Degree, subject to the conditions set, and recognition of areas of choice in the top 10 universities in the world by areas as listed in the QS World University Ranking.
This is the pinnacle of scholarships, and only those with straight A+ can even apply. The Ministry of Education will only consider the top 102 students who achieved this, out which the top 20 will be selected. The full requirements are as follows:
Location: Preparatory course in Malaysia, then Degree course a university ranked in the top 10 worldwide.
Discipline : Any
Application deadline: March 22, 2017, 5.00pm

Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates for 2016 are invited to apply for a sponsorship under the B40 Bursary Program (JPA Dermasiswa B40). The programme targets students pursuing diploma-level and professional certificates in institutions identified from the background of low-income families, the B40s to be sponsored by the scholarship method.
