1. Most important question: How much am I getting?

Total sponsorship for the Modifiable Education Loan (PPBU) / Scholarship is dependent on the level of study as follows:

a. Doctorate: Up to RM18,600 per year

b. Masters: A maximum of RM12,000 per year

c. Degree: A maximum of RM9,500 per year (UITM & Polytechnic only RM6,500)

d. Diploma: A maximum of RM7,500 per year (UITM & Polytechnic only RM5,000)

e. Vocational Diploma: Up to RM30,000 (3 years)

f. Vocational Certificate: Up to RM30,000 (2 years)

For overseas:

PPBU facilities provided are as follows:

a. Tuition fees

b. Subsistence allowance

c. Allowance for round trip flight ticket for one time only

* Expenses for accident and health insurances, passport and visa are all to be borne by the student*

2. What is this funding actually?

PEMBIAYAAN PENDIDIKAN BOLEH UBAH (PPBU)

The Modifiable Education Fund means that the repayment total from the sponsorship received may vary or be modified or subject to change according to the conditions specified and subject to the discretion of Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR).

Table on loan exemption:

The Modifiable Education funding runs on the concept of "Qardhul Hassan" which means the sponsorship does not incur any interest or additional conditions during repayment of the loan.

3. Can I apply?

YES if you are a Malaysian citizen who has received an offer to study at higher education institutions and meet these requirements:

i) Age not younger than 18 years old at the time of applying for PPBU and not more than 30 years old during graduation for these programmes: Vocational Certificate, Vocational Diploma, Diploma, Bachelor and Professional.

For applicants of the Masters and Doctorate (PhD) programmes, you must aim to graduate before the age of 45 and 50 years respectively.

ii) Applicants must be enrolled in a FULL TIME programme. Applicants who are studying part-time are not eligible to apply.

4. Let's clarify, what do I need academically to apply for this funding?

Doctorate Degree (Ph.D)

Graduated Master's with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 and above.

Master's Degree

Graduated Bachelor's Degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 and above.

Bachelor's Degree

Graduated Diploma with at least CGPA of 3.00 or Matriculation with at least CGPA of 3.00 or Higher School Certificate (STPM) with at least CGPA of 3.00 or Sijil Tinggi Agama (STAM) with the Jayyid Jiddan or Mumtaz qualifications equivalent to STPM.

Diploma

A minimum of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with at least 5A.

Vocational Diploma

At least qualified/have attended courses for level 2 Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) or SPM for applicants of other Vocational Certificates.

Vocational Certificate

Has taken and passed Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with credits in Bahasa Melayu and two (2) credits in any other subjects.

5. What are the subjects I can study under this loan?

LOCAL:

All study levels from Bachelor's Degree to Ph.D except Medicine and Aviation programmes are covered by this loan.

YBR does not provide sponsorship at these study levels:

  • Foundation
  • Certified Accounting Technician (CAT)
  • Asasi/Matrikulasi
  • Tahmidi

Field of study priority:

• Accounting

• Banking

• Business management

• Human resources

• Economy

• Communication Media

• Law

• Actuarial Science

However, YBR will still sponsor other fields except for Medicine and Aviation (Licensing).

OVERSEAS:

Level of education for overseas studies are Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree.

Funding for studying abroad are for courses related to banking only, with priority given to these areas of study:

  • Accounting
  • Banking
  • Business management
  • Human resources
  • Economy
  • Communications Media
  • Law
  • Actuarial Science

6. Where can I study?

LOCAL:

Open to underprivileged Malaysians regardless of race, religion, ethnicity and qualified to study full-time at these Higher Education Institutions:

  • IPTA / IPTS in the country recognized by JPA / MQA
  • ILA / ILS recognized by the MLVK / Malaysian Government Bodies

OVERSEAS:

  • YBR has chosen universities from AUSTRALIA ONLY which are recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, JPA / MQA to sponsor students wishing to pursue studies abroad.

7. How long will the loan last?

Duration of study sponsored by YBR is as follows:

  • Doctoral Degree; The maximum duration of the sponsorship is 3 years.
  • Masters; The maximum sponsorship period is 2 years.
  • Degree; The maximum sponsorship period is 4 years.
  • Diploma; The maximum sponsorship period is 3 years.
  • Vocational Diploma; The maximum sponsorship period is 3 years.
  • Vocational certificate; The maximum sponsorship period is 2 years.

For students who exceed the maximum period of sponsorship by YBR, your expenditure will have to come from yourself.

YBR will begin their sponsorship based on the year of the student's application.

8. I'm interested and eligible. How do I apply?

Since the year 2010, all applications have to be made STRICTLY online by going to the Yayasan Bank Rakyat website.

Students need to start a Simpanan Bank Rakyat account when applying for the PPBU fund with a minimum of RM 100.00.

You are required to print the completed online application form and send it to YBR along with the documents required for the purposes of the review application.

Guarantor information form will be required by the Foundation for successful applicants only.

Forms must be returned within 14 days from the date of the PPBU / Scholarship offer.

9. How do I know if my application was successful?

Results can be accessed through the YBR website, email and via SMS messages sent by the YBR.

If successful but you do not wish to receive please return the PPBU form back to YBR along with an official letter explaining why you have rejected the offer.

If unsuccessful: Appeals will not be entertained. You may try to apply for PPBU again the following year.

10. What happens after I finish my studies?

Upon graduation, students are required to submit a full academic transcript along with an official letter proving your graduation via e-mail or post to YBR.

PPBU repayment can be made via two methods: internet banking or i-rakyat in any Bank Rakyat branch near you.

Postponement of repayment will only be available if the student is accepted to pursue their studies at a higher level and also for approved reasons which are subject to the discretion of YBR.
