PTPTN to provide assistance at airports

The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) plans to assist the Immigration Department by opening a helpdesk at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Helpdesks will ease the burden of the immigration department personnel having to handle travellers who have been blacklisted due to outstanding payment.

Wan Ahmad Wan Yusoff, chief executive officer of PTPTN, is in the process of discussing the matter with other agencies. He told NST that these discussions are being held with agencies that would be directly involved in this process to ensure that everything is set in place accordingly. The helpdesks are expected to open soon. However, no deadline has been given.

These helpdesk are intended to ensure travellers do not miss their flights because of outstanding students loans. Borrowers held at the airport will be able to schedule payments on the spot before leaving the country.

According to PTPTN, there are more than 700,000 borrowers blacklisted and who aren't able to leave the country due to failure to repay their loans.

More updates are expected soon.
