A total of RM3.43 billion (as of end-July) have been collected from students who borrowed from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN). The increase in loan recovery showed that the students were aware of their responsibility.
More than 772,000 borrowers, which make up 70.63% of those who had taken loans from the fund, have settled their accounts.
PTPTN has helped 1.2 million borrowers with loans worth RM7.33 billion.
Recently, PTPN announced that borrowers can pay as little as RM50 a month.
Those who had achieved excellent results in their studies could be exempted from repaying their loans, said Corporation Chairman Datuk Ismail Mohamed Said.
Up to July 31, some 13,011 borrowers who obtained first class degrees or its equivalent had been exempted from paying back their dues, amounting to more than RM370 million.
Due to the positive results of the campaign, two more PTPTN branches are due to open soon in Sabah and Sarawak.
