Work experience becomes criteria for entrance into university

Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) became the first public university in the country to recognize work experience as a condition of eligibility for further studies in all levels at the university.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Hassan Said said the recognition was given through the "Accreditation of Prior Learning Through Experience (APEL) in an effort to cultivate the concept of lifelong education.

He said the move was in line with the recommendations of the Malaysian Education Blueprint (Pendidikan Tinggi) 2015-2025 to form a graduate's appreciation for lifelong learning.

"The program is flexible it provides an opportunity for the group to choose the mode of study either full time, part time or distance learning in addition to using Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC).

Meanwhile, Director of the Institute of Education Neo (NED) lecturer Assoc Prof Dr Roslani Embi, said the department is responsible for conducting performance tests, portfolio assessment and interview sessions for the group.

According to him, interested candidates can take the test at all iNED UiTM branches throughout the country.
