A total of 37,467 or 55.6% of the eligible candidates managed to obtain offers from 19 universities.

“For example, for medical courses, only 418 places are available while applications from candidates with 4.00 CGPA alone numbered 1,163. This is not taking into account the candidates with CGPAs of 3.99 and below who have also applied for the medical course. For dental courses there are only 80 places offered while the applicants numbered a total of 261 people and a total of 119 places were offered for pharmacy courses for which a total of 313 candidates applied,” according to the statement.

The ministry said that a total of 109 candidates with CGPA 4.00 were offered courses outside of their field of choice, while seven candidates were not offered places as they had not passed the Malaysian University English Test Band 1 (MUET).

“These 109 candidates were offered courses not of their choice because the students selected courses which are very competitive and it was offered to candidates with better merit. Therefore, not all candidates with CGPA 4.00 were offered these courses. However, the process of application for admission to public universities is still pending. Public universities are now starting the process of reviewing the appeals submitted by the candidates who did not get a place,” said the statement.
