USM forges partnership with Glasgow University

Malaysian universities seek to improve the quality of higher education in the country by forging partnership with globally renowned institutions.

USM

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Glasgow University, one of Scotland's most reputable instructions have forged collaborations of late.

The collaboration is set specifically between two departments, School of Management and Business, to increase joint research efforts and publications in the two fields.

According to USM Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Omar Osman, USM has more than 10 joint publications with various institutions and he hopes that the recent cooperation will produce results.

Additionally, USM plans to offer 2+2 programmes from management and business students allowing students to get the benefits offered by the two universities. These programmes will allow students to take up two years in Malaysia and pursue the other two years in Scotland.

USM is planning to take part in the student exchange programme and is expected to send 5 students by 2019.

Glasgow University Vice Principle and International Dean, Prof Frank Coton, said that Glasgow University is highly selective of their foreign partners. USM had proven to be an excellent university and worthy partner.

USM isn't the only university to partner with the Scottish institution. Universiti Malaya and Universiti Putra Malaysia are partners with Glasgow University for research purposes.

Glasgow University is a public institution and is ranked at 63rd place worldwide. The Scottish institution is ranked 16th globally in the field of Veterinary Science and 46th in the field of Life Sciences and Medicine.

UM, UPM and USM hold global rankings at 133rd  270th , and 330th place respectively.
