University Malaysia of Computer Science & Engineering (UniMy), a private university, has a new vice-chancellor.
Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Ab. Hamid has been appointed as the university's VC. He is an educator and researcher as well as advocate for Information and Communications Technology's role in driving sustainable development and innovation.
He is also known for his contributions in the eBario initiative, a national project to bridge the digital divide in the Kelabit community in Sarawak. The multi-awarded initiative brought computers and the Internet to the Kelabit community to demonstrate how use of ICT can improve the lives of rural folks.
The new VC is an alumnus of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He finished a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. He took his postgraduate studies overseas at the University of Hawaii and University of Essex in the United Kingdom, respectively.
