Universiti of Malaya (UM) Reopens Direct Intake for Engineering in 2018 to their International Degree Programme

Hot off the heels of breaking into the Top 10 Universities Worldwide for the field of engineering in the U.S. News 2018 Global Rankings, Universiti Malaya (UM) has now reopened the direct intake to their International Degree Programmes. And before anyone inevitable asks, yes, local students may apply as well. For the full requirements, courses, fees, and how to apply, please scroll down. 

Courses on Offer

The courses on offer are all in the field of engineering. The specific courses offered by UM for their International Degree Programme include: 

• Bachelor of Civil Engineering
• Bachelor of Electrical Engineering
• Bachelor of Chemical Engineering
• Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering
• Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering

Requirements

The requirements for Malaysian students are as follows:

General Requirements

Applicants must have obtained a pass in SPM/equivalent with credit in Bahasa Malaysia (July Paper also accepted) as well as a pass in Sejarah (SPM 2013 and above). Applicants must also have obtained a minimum of band 3 in MUET OR a 5.5 in IELTS.

STPM

• Pass STPM with at least CGPA 3.30 and grade A- (CGPA 3.67) in Mathematics T; AND
• Obtained at least grade B+ (CGPA 3.33) in Physics at the STPM level; OR
• Obtained at least grade A- (CGPA 3.67) at the STPM Level in the following subjects:
• Biology and Chemistry; AND 
• Obtained at least grade B in Physics at the SPM Level; AND 
• Obtained at least Band 3 in MUET; 
• Candidates who apply for Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Chemical Engineering must not be colour blind.

Matrikulasi/Foundation

• Pass Matriculation/Foundation with at least CGPA 3.30 and grade A- (CGPA 3.67) in Mathematics; AND
• Obtained at least grade B+ (3.33) at the Matriculation/Foundation Level in the following subjects:
• Physics/Engineering Physics; OR Obtained at least grade A- (3.67) at the Matriculation/Foundation Level in the following subjects: 
• Biology; and Chemistry; AND 
• Obtained at least grade B in Physics at the SPM Level; AND
• Obtained at least Band 3 in MUET; AND
• Candidates who apply for Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Chemical Engineering must not be colour blind.

Diploma/Equivalent

• Obtained Diploma from Local Universities with at least CGPA 3.30 in engineering field related to the programme study applied; AND
• Obtained at least grade B at the SPM Level in the following subjects:
• Mathematics and Physics; OR
• Pass STPM not in current year with at least CGPA 3.30 and grade A- (CGPA 3.67) in Mathematics (T); AND
• Obtained at least grade B+ (CGPA 3.33) at the STPM level in physics; or obtained at least grade A- (CGPA 3.67) at the STPM Level in the following subjects:
• Biology; and Chemistry; AND Obtained at least grade B in Physics at the SPM Level; OR Pass Matriculation/Foundation not in current year with at least CGPA 3.30 and grade A- (CGPA 3.67) in Mathematics; AND Obtained at least grade B+ (3.33) at the Matriculation/Foundation Level in following subjects:
• Physics/ Engineering Physics; OR Obtained at least grade A- (3.67) at the Matriculation/Foundation Level in following subjects:
• Biology; and Chemistry; AND Obtained at least grade B in Physics at the SPM Level; AND Obtained at least Band 3 in MUET; 
• Candidates who apply for Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Chemical Engineering must not be colour blind.

A-Levels

• Have qualifications in GCE A-Level with at least grade B in the following subjects:
• Mathematics; and Physics; AND Obtained at least grade B at the A-Level in one (1) of the following subjects: Further Mathematics; Biology; Chemistry. 

Australian Matriculation programme (AUSMAT)

• At least Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 85 percent with the two (2) following subjects:
• Mathematics; and Physics; AND one (1) of the following subjects:
• Chemistry; Biology; Mathematics Specialist; 

International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) 

• At least 30 point score and obtained grade 6 (Higher Level) in the following subjects:
• Mathematics; and Physics; AND obtained at least grade 5 (Higher Level) in International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma in one (1) of the following subjects:
• Further Mathematics; Chemistry; Biology; AND Obtained at least Band 3 in MUET or Obtained at least Band 5.5 in IELTS or Obtained score at least 477 (PBT)/ 153 (CBT)/ 53 (IBT) in TOEFL; AND
• Candidates who apply for Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Chemical Engineering must not be colour blind.
