Universiti Malaysia Pahang(UMP) and Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has entered into a joint development agreement to produce graduates in automotive engineering. This agreement, which is part of UMP's 2011-2015 strategic plan, will enable students of UMP to carry out their industrial training with Mercedes-Benz.
With the training, students will be industry-ready to meet market demands in the automotive field. In the long term, the luxury car manufacturer plans to build long-term ties with UMP by hiring its students later on.
UMP is one of the universities in Malaysia that focuses on engineering courses. Its programmes include mechanical engineering (automotive, manufacturing and industry); chemical engineering (gas technology and biotechnology); civil engineering; electrical engineering (control & instrumentation, electronics, Power system); manufacturing engineering; as well as hybrid courses such as mechatronics engineering.
It currently has about 8,000 students.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia's production plant is located in Pekan, Pahang while its Apprentice Training Center (ATC) is located at Glenmarie, Shah Alam. About 600 trainees have since graduated from the training centre.
The signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) was held at JW Marriott Hotel, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.
