The country's premier university, Universiti Malaya (UM) appeared in the top 51-100 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, this year. UM's Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Chemical Engineering as well as Law and Education got in the top 100.
"The Faculty of Engineering is happy with the progress made. We will build on this to improve ourselves. We are under no illusions, and acknowledge that much work still needs to be done in strengthening our teaching and research. In the next few years, the full impact of the large research funding we received, and key restructuring moves would manifest themselves. We expect the spill over effect would see us climb the rankings and land us in the elite top 50 in the world," said Dr. Faisal Rafiq Mahamd Adikan, Acting Dean & Deputy Dean (Research), Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaya.
Some of Malaysia's public universities, such as Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), appeared in other individual subjects - Modern Languages, Geography, English Language & Literature, Chemical Engineering, Civil & Structural Engineering, Computer Science and so forth.
