UNITAR International University Hold FHTM Tourism Conference 2012

UNITAR International University held its Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) Tourism Conference 2012 on Wednesday, 12th of December, 2012 at its main campus located at Leisure Commerce Square, Petaling Jaya to great sharing of information and feedback from the audiences. Guest of honour, Dato’ Dr. Nordin Selat provided the opening remarks to the event which was filled with admiration and support of the students of UNITAR Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Twenty Bachelor (Hons) Hospitality Management students undertaking their Project Paper and much intrigued the spellbound audience. The conference Seminar in Industry Perspective courses presented their Research Findings during the Tourism Conference, and nine students presented posters at the exhibition hall, which theme was; Kuala Pilah Tourism: Embracing Cultural Heritage to Enhance Community Identity and Pride. The day-long event witnessed the great depth and scope of research activities conducted by the students of the faculty which were articulate, interesting and above all demonstrated their great abilities in presentation, research understanding on cultural issues and entrepreneurship ventures on new product development proposed for the study area. Students had put together tourism packages of cultural heritage and attractions which will appeal to consumers to and around Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan.

Both Senior Lecturers at the Faculty of Hospitality and Management, UNITAR International University Ms Haliza Mohd. Said and Ms Rohaizah Abdul Latiff, whose students were being assessed, were greatly impressed with the outcome of the event and performance of their students, commenting that “these are indeed the result of hard work and great effort from the students and research advisors throughout the semester,” and further-more, they added “the lecturers have high hopes for the students future endeavours in their career path”. Dato’ Dr. Nordin Selat, a former Senator and great Malaysian cultural scholar felt that the spirit of Malaysia has not been lost among the youth of today. “Witnessing the presentations from the students, I feel a great joy in my heart to know that the youth have learned to embrace their cultural and heritage through this research projects.” He also urged the students to think of the complex challenges of “preserving cultural and heritage materials for future generations by supporting preventive conservation measures that will continue to uphold the identity and pride of the community.”
