Top Chinese university targets Malaysians

Tsinghua University, one of China's top universities and holds the 24th place on the QS World University Ranking, announced its intention to target more Malaysian students as a part of their proactive recruiting strategies, according to the university's vice-president Yang Bin.

Speaking to a group of Chinese overseas delegates in Beijing on October 18th, Yang said that Malaysian students will no longer need to fly to China to sit for the university's entrance examination. Instead, the university intends to send examiners to Malaysia and facilitate the examination process locally.

The university is allocating 50 additional places for qualified Malaysian students yearly and hopes to attract more students proficient in Mandarin to study at the university.

The university enrols as many as 350 international students annually from South Korea, the United States, Britain, Singapore, Japan, Canada, Thailand, Pakistan and Malaysia. The interest in Malaysian students is driven by the fact that they are among the top performing students at the university.
