Too many SPM leavers 2015 wanting to be teachers

There is a highly alarming competition among SPM leavers to become teachers starting from 2016.

It was reported that The Institute of Teacher Education Malaysia have received 69,000 applications from SPM 2015 leavers.

Therefore, SPM school leavers are to face high competition to become government school teachers as there are only 3,200 teaching posts available.

Out of the 69,000 applicants, The Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan stated that 27,000 of them met the minimum requirement of obtaining 5As in SPM.

Kamalanathan highlighted that 380 trained teachers are needed for Tamil schools.

He also mentioned that 80% of the teaching posts are still available and initiatives have been taken to attract more school leavers to join the teaching profession.
