RM31.61 million from PTPTN's Waran Wang Pendahuluan Pembiayaan (WPP) was handed over to 21,074 students of the Malaysian public universities across the country yesterday.
Chairman Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said of the total, RM3.3 million was given to 2,202 students in Perak, including RM334,500 for 223 students in the district of Larut.
"The WPP is for undergraduate admission to public universities for the September 2016 session to ease the burden on parents and families provide the basic needs of children.
"Parents and students receiving these warrants are reminded to take advantage of this money for education purposes and not for other purposes," he said.
Earlier in his speech , Shamsul Anuar said a total of RM1.21 billion WPP warrants were cashed by 821,713 students nationwide until 9 August 2016.
He also asked the parents, especially the Bumiputera to inculcate the savings to reduce dependency on PTPTN loans.
"In the past 10 years from now, we are aiming to reduce the loan and instead, focusing on early savings through these two schemes SSPN-i and SSPN-i Plus," he said.
