Public universities to remain affordable

Public universities will continue to be accessible for everyone.

Despite the urge to strive for independent funding by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh has promised that even though the ministry experienced a 15 per cent cut in allocation in the 2016 Budget, fees for public universities will not be expected to increase.

"We will not allow any increase in fees for undergraduate programmes at our universities," he said.

He further added that the budget given to the ministry, although less than that was received last year, was in line with the Malaysian Education Blueprint (2015-2025) (Higher Education).
