Public universities to alter schedules in the semester for Deepavali
- Public universities will alter their semester schedules to permit Indian students to return home and celebrate Deepavali (27th of October, 2011).
- Adding to that, vegetarian food will be served in universities for Hindu devotees (students) while also providing bus services for Hindu university students who want to go to the temple for prayers on Friday evenings.
- 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scholarships will be given to poor students with excellent results to pursue their postgraduate studies.
- The above announcements came from the Prime Minister himself after launching the 1Malaysia Indian Student Movement (1MISM).
- 1MISM was established to preserve and protect the rights and welfare of the Indian student community in universities. They have around 7,000 members from higher education universities around Malaysia.
