Predictions for SPM BM Paper 1 + Tips!

SPM is just around the corner and we at Afterschool have predicted that these questions will come out. Below is a sample question for Paper 1 - Section B for Bahasa Melayu and following that, a set of tips and dos and don’ts.

Question: Pakar kesihatan sedunia melalui banyak kajian dan penelitian telah membuktikan bahawa rokok sangat berbahaya kepada kesihatan khasnya golongan remaja, namun penyataan ini seolah-olah dianggap sepi oleh banyak pihak. Sebagai seorang pakar kesihatan anda dikehendaki memberi ceramah berkaitan bahaya merokok kepada golongan belia. Sediakan teks ceramah anda selengkapnya.

Answer: (format ceramah – ada kata alu-aluan, panggilan kehormat,penutup dan format penulisan ceramah)

Pendahuluan: ucapan alu-aluan, pengenalan diri dan tajuk berkaitan,latar belakang faktor remaja merokok- contoh daripada ibu bapa,pengaruh kawan-kawan,iklan,cabaran kumpulan, perasaan ingin tahu.

Isi – bahaya/kesan rokok kepada remaja

1. Tingkatkan risiko jantung (koronori) dan kanser (brokintis/emfisisma)
2. Mudah menghadapi tekanan darah tinggi dan menyumbat serta meracuni saluran
3. penafasan yang boleh menyebabkan kadar denyutan jantung meningkat.
4. Proses penuaan kulit tiga kali lebih cepat dan kedutan di bawah mata dan sekeliling mulut.
5. Menyebabkan pemandulan akibat pengurangan sperma dan tahap kesuburan wanita.
6. Melesukan tubuh dan melemahkan fikiran.
7. Pembaziran wang kerana membeli rokok dan kos perubatan.
8. Jangkitan mulut/mulut berbau/kerosakan gigi
9. Kesan jangka pendek, mulut berbau.

Kesimpulan: Ketagihan merokok membahayakan kesihatan dan rohaniah perokok

Now, onto the tips!

Aspects that need to be addressed by the candidates:

1. Try to complete the assignment within 5 to 7 paragraphs. Introduction and conlusion should be 30 to 50 words containing 4 to 5 sentences, while the contents of each paragraph is 4 to 5 sentences that contain 40 to 50 words.
2. Paragraph used should use short and concise language to prevent linguistic confusion.
3. Use proper punctuation and appropriate discourse markers to indicate there is continuity between the content prior to the contents thereof.
4. Try to create an essay of more than 350 words but meets the question's requirements and all content requires at least one or two of elaborations and one or two concrete examples.
5. Include two to three proverbs and ideally the essay should end on a proverb.
6. The pattern of recent questions are in line with  current thinking skills and knowledge as well as examples of breaking news.Therefore candidates should be aware of the news and current developments within and outside the country, involving issues such as general knowledge, economics, health, national security, environmental semester / nature, sports, and the arts. If a candidate is less skilled or has less knowledge on current issues whether at the international or national level, avoid answering the question. Choose the question that one is most familiar with.

Aspects of potential weakness:

1. Candidate answers less than 350 words results in the content and elaboration being incomplete and therefore affecting the candidate's score.
2. Candidate did not expand upon the points and provide an example and a general elaboration for each point.
3. Candidate submit too much content but only describe them in general terms without concrete explanations and examples.
4. Candidate answered question that require extensive knowledge despite the candidate's knowledge being quite limited. Sample questions include: on the impact of neglect of the surrounding area and the breeding of mosquitoes, the candidate submit examples of events related to dengue fever which occurred 5 or 6 years ago, while the effects of current mosquito bites are related to the spread of the Zika virus.
5. Candidate submitting false or inappropriate proverbs.
6. Candidate's idea deviates from the requirements of the question.
7. The candidate uses words that are repeated with no variation. Discourse markers and expressions are not interesting.
