New virtual Islamic university coming up next year

  • Virtual university to combine 258 Islamic universities in one platform
  • Videoconferencing and virtual library to be used as tools for instruction

Education will soon be easy and accessible to the global Islamic community. The first virtual Islamic university will be launched next year. It will combine 258 Islamic universities from 51 countries under the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The University of Sharjah, Islamic University in Uganda, Kuwait University, Azerbaijan State Economic University and the University of Sheikh Anta Diop-Senegal are among the universities involved in the project.

The virtual university will be managed by the Federation of Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW).

International Islamic University of Malaysia Rector Prof Datuk Seri Dr Zaleha Kamaruddin was quoted saying that this virtual platform will enable interaction among Muslims worldwide without having to travel out of the country. She added that instruction and learning will be done through video conferencing and virtual libraries.
