Nearly 25% of candidates were offered seats in Malaysian public universities

A total of 21,502 candidates (STPM, matriculation, foundation) submitted their e-appeal application for public universities, according to an official statement released by the Malaysian Ministry of Education.

Out of the total, 5,328 candidates (24.7%) were offered a place because they met the university's general and special conditions of the programme. Out of the total successful candidates, 2,119 candidates are science stream and 3,209 candidates are arts stream.

Furthermore, most of the successful candidates were females (3,724) while the remaining are males (1,586).

Overall the total number of places offered to candidates for academic session 2014/2015 is 42,795 compared to last year's 41,573

The policy for recruitment is based on the principle of meritocracy by applying a 90% academic marks and 10% marks in determining the merits of co-curricular activities of a candidate. Meritocratic principle is implemented regardless of religion race, ethnicity, country, gender, place of residence, and so on.
